"Be careful at the edge." Kate's father hummed. "If you fall down here, you're not going to have happy times."
"Why not?" Kate asked, curious.
"There's, uh...how do I explain this?" Kate's father glanced over his shoulder. "It's a gemstone that needs an, uh...a host, i guess, to survive. If it's left on it's own, then it'll decay, and it's essentially the core of the planet."
"...So..?" Kate asked. She only understood half of what he'd just told her.
"Well, uhm, if it doesn't have something helping it then it'll die and the planet implodes." Kate's father attempted to simplify.
"What's uhm, 'Implode' mean?" Kate asked.
"Very bad." Kate's father hummed.
"uhh...okay." Kate blinked. "What's uhm, helping it right now?"
"A turtle, I think." Kate's father said. "the funny thing is, whenever an animal goes into the crystal, it comes out more...mean."
"Really?" Kate blinked, surprised. "Spooky!"
Kate's father nodded and Kate peeked over the edge.
"Sorry, bee." Kate's father whispered. Kate blinked, confused. "What-?"
And then she was shoved into the hole.
