chapter 3 Home bound

FIVE long years had gone past.
Hindi ko parin makalimutan ang nagyari noon. Isang beses lang akong nag-pabaya. Marami ang nagbago. Maybe this is fate for me.

Noon, i guard myself to be a perfect person.
Halos hindi ako lumalabas kasama ang kaibigan. Kung meron man miminsan lang iyon. My Mom do not restrain me from going out, pero yun ang gusto ko. I go to school, do my assignments, projects, reports etc..I am a good student though. Kasi sabi ko, i can do what ever i want kapag tapos na ako, when i am working.

No boyfriends. Lahat na sa tingin ko ay makakahadlang sa pangarap ko.

Pero in just a blink of an eye it all vanished.

Malaki ang naging epekto ng nakaraan ko sa akin. I had falls, i felt down. I run! I almost cut my communications to my friends. Im ashamed.

I who see them as a reserve person. No flaws. I planned every move i made before i do it. I am almost perfect to them. But i failed! I failed.

" Ms. Yna, Boss wants to talk to you." Si Edhel secretary ko. She's with me when i started. Mabait ito at kwela. Madali kong nakagaangan ng loob. She's a Filipina too.

" Hey! are you okay Ms. Yna?" she snapped her finger in front of me. Nakitaan ko pa ito ng ngiti sa labi.

" What?! Im sorry Edhel. What is it again?" pabalikwas kung tanong. " What we're you saying" I am overthinking things again.

" Seems like your so clouded Ms. Yna." ngumiti ito. " Anyway Boss wants to talk to you." she declare.

" Oh! Is that so.. now?"

" Yeah" she said again.

" Okay, thanks Edhel"

" Hi Boss" as i enter his cozy and elegant office. Designed by his own. A stout man sitting behind a wooden table with dignity and power.

Francis Leviste is the owner and CEO of Lenout holding's Corporation. Its a well known property developer around the world, such as land and stocks.

" Sit down Ms. Santos " panimula nito. Umupo ako at ngumiti dito.
" How have you been this far?" Tanong nito. Wala akong idea kung ano ang gusto niyang ipunto. Maybe he just want to evaluate my progress.
" I'm good Boss! I believe i met your expectations. You have all the answers anyway." may biro sa huling linya ko, pero truthfully he can assess how competitive I am.

Humalakhak ito. Tanda na nasisyahan sa usapan.

" You've been one of the most Outstanding Engineer I hired -." natuwa ako sa pahayag nito. " I'm very proud of it. " kita sa mata nito ang sinseredad. Nakitaan ko din ng tagumpay ang kanyang mata.

Magaling itong mentor. Walang yabang sa katawan sakibila ng tagumpay nito. He is strict but with reasons.

" Im giving you a huge project."

" Really!" medyo gulat kong sagot, napataas pa ng kaunti sa aking kinauupuan. I'm feel blessed. Sa dami namin, ako ang napili niya, mas baguhan kumpara sa iba. But like he said I'm one of the best! Tumatalon ang puso ko sa saya.

" Yes! its a Sandoval Hotel and Resort in the Philippines."

Para akong tinakasan ng dugo sa deneklara nito! " Philippines Sir?!" gulat kong tanong dito. Para pa ngang tumaas ang boses ko higit sa normal.  Baka nabingi lang ako. Is this even real?Pasimple kong kinurot ang braso ko. Totoo. Kanina lang iniisip ko ang noon.

" Yes it is, Ms Santos. Why is there something wrong?" He asked. May pag-aalala sa boses nito. Iling ang bibigay kong sagot kaya nagpatuloy ito. " This is a multi-billionaire project. Makikila ang husay mo, at the same time you'll able to see your home country."

Halos hindi sumiksik sa aking isipan ang sinasabi nito, pero hindi ko ito ipinahalata.

Seriously! Baket?! Pilit akong umiiwas pero tila hinahabol ako ng panahon.

" Are you up to it?" pinal na tanong nito.

Tumango ako. Kahit pakiramdam ko labag sa kalooban ko.

" Well then, Congratulations!. The details will be discuss to you by Emma."

" Thank you Sir!" nakipagkamay ako dito. Kahit nag-aalinlangan, kailangan kong tanggapin ito. I can't let down my Boss offer. Tumayo na ako para makalabas. Dumeretso kung nasan si Emma.

Emma discuss to me the details and let me signed the contract. I hope, my brain works. Everything are all settled, tangging ang pagpirma ko nalang ang kulang.

In three weeks Im going back to  Philippines. Limang taon din akong nanatili dito sa New York. Unang taon ko dito nakatira ako sa Daddy ko, kasama ang pangalawa niyang pamilya. Okay naman. Wala aking naging problema, infact they care for me.

Nakahanap ako ng trabaho bilang isang field Engineer sa Lenout Holdings Corp. kahit na wala pa akong experience, kaya naman pinagbuti ko ang lahat para matuto at maging matagumpay.

May mumunting din saya akong nararamdaman sa pag-uwi, pero higit dito ang takot. May posibilidad na magkita ulet kami. Pero maari rin hindi! Sa laki ba naman ng mundo.

Ipinilig ko ang aking ulo para matigil na ang sobrang pag-iisip. Dapat pagtuunan ko ng pansin ang magiging proyekto. Malaki ito at matagumpay. I need to focus.
