We all sit round the dinner table, laughing and eating just as a loud bang goes off, it almost sounds like an explosion.
Jack heads straight outside with the rest of security.
Me: Stay here.
I run outside with them, to see the front gate completed caved in, a car having gone through the middle, and graffiti all over the garage door.
Me: What the fuck?!
Jack: Y/N, stay away please. We'll sort it.Just as he heads over to the garage, a woman gets out of the car, Mrs Hartley.
Me: Why am I not surprised? This is just brilliant.
Mrs Hartley: I told you to watch yourself. You think this is bad?
Me: Oh no, I think this is hilarious. Desperation looks lovely on you. I can fix the garage, and the gate, and the yard, that's not a problem. Carry on, really, see what happens if you keep pushing.
Mrs Hartley: You're a fucking child! You thought you'd ruin my daughter's life with your blackmail on the principal? I wouldn't be surprised if Rose did something to my daughter, coming from you. What a horrible little girl you have.Just then, Scarlett comes out and places her hand on my shoulder.
Scarlett: Babe, come on. Just leave Jack to sort it.
I shove her off gently.
Me: What the fuck did you just say?! How dare you. What, you think just because you seem to have a perfect little family and a lovely picket fence around your little home that that's how it actually is?! Let me give you a reality check honey, it's not. And I didn't blackmail anyone, I never paid the school a penny for their fucking parties, I pay for her education the same as everyone else. The principal saw right through you, and you did that right on your own. I made my own success, I have more money than I know what to do with, I could wipe my ass with Ben Franklins. I had my own struggles, but I come home every single night to this huge home, to this wonderful family. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my daughter, she is a beautiful young girl, with more maturity in her little finger than any of us will ever show in our lives. Go home, Alison. I'll have someone tow your car. Be thankful if you don't get an invoice for the repairs, the garage door alone is worth more than your insurance policy could cover.
Jack grabs Mrs Hartley and guides her out, and security stand at the gate to stop the paparazzi from trying to enter. I turn to Scarlett.
Me: I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to shove you off. I just had to say that.
Rose: Mom?Rose stands in the doorway, having seen the whole thing. She comes over and wraps her arms around me.
Me: You okay? Did you see all of that?
Rose: Thanks Mom.I kneel to her level.
Me: Nobody gets close to you, at least nobody like that. I'll always back you up, you know that right?
Rose: Yeah.
Me: Go on, take Jess and finish your dinner with LG.She runs back inside.
Me: Yeah, sorry.
Scarlett: No, don't be sorry. I think you handled that better than I would.
Me & Scarlett: Hormones.
Scarlett: Right, hormones.
Me: Go on, I'll just help Jack with this. Maybe the paint is still wet enough to jet wash off.
Jack: I've got it Y/N, you go.I nod to Jack and head inside. I've had a headache all afternoon, a bad mental health day, so this isn't exactly what I needed.
I dropped Jessica back home after dinner, and head into the studio with LG, not saying a word, sitting on the piano and playing.
