Scarlett: W...What...
Me: Shh, you don't need to say anything.

Scarlett lifts her head off my shoulder after what seemed like forever of just sitting on the bed, neither of us having changed still. I stand up and start taking the dirty clothes off, placing them in a bag we'd been told to put them in.

Scarlett instantly sees the taped up stitching on my back.

Scarlett: That would've hit me in the face if you hadn't have dived on me.
Me: Probably.
Scarlett: Why did you do that?
Me: To make sure you were safe.
Scarlett: You could've died.
Me: And if I hadn't have done that, both of us might've been dead instead, along with the pile of bodies I've done nothing but replay in my head for the last however many hours.

She strips too, changing back into the same sweatpants and hoodie she had on at breakfast.

Me: Flo and Hailee are fine, they were on the other end of the carpet when it happened. Ollie doesn't know about everyone else. Or how many people died.
Scarlett: That girl...
Me: Paramedics came across, I saw them as Jack dragged me away. She's fine. Scarl, you're still in shock. You need to try and sleep it off.

She continues to stare, nothing behind her eyes, so I grab her hands and take her to bed, pulling the duvet up for her.

Me: I'll come back in when we're nearly home, okay?

She nods and allows me to leave, going back into the main cabin of the plane. I sit next to Ollie.

Me: What just happened? One second everything was fine, then the next...
Ollie: Some kind of bomb. Nobody has any information yet.
Me: Like a terrorist attack or something?
Ollie: You'll know when I know.
Me: There were so many bodies. I couldn't see much, but there were just so many people lying there. I can't stop seeing that.
Ollie: We just need to focus on getting you both home and safe. We can work on everything else after that.

After what seems like forever, we land in New York and are transported back to the house, the kids staying with LG for the next few days. Our team stay at the house, along with our therapist and doctor.

I sit next to Scarlett on the couch, allowing her to fall into me and cry, the shock clearly wearing off. I wrap my arms around her, nobody in the team saying a word, clearly seeing the damage the whole day has caused.

I kiss her forehead, and keep our conversation at quiet as possible.

Me: You okay?
Scarlett: Mhm.
Me: Do you need anything?
Scarlett: No. Do you?
Me: Probably pain killers for my ear, but I'm good.

She gets up instantly and hurries over to the kitchen, pulling out the box of painkillers from the drawer, panicking and rushing around, her hands shaking. I jump up and follow her.

Me: I can get them, it's okay.
Scarlett: I can do it, you just need water with these, right? Which ones do you need? Is it these? Yeah, these ones.

She throws the meds back in the drawer and hurries to get a glass, hands still shaking.

Me: Scarl, honey, you need to stop.
Scarlett: You said just water right?

She shakily rushes the glass over to the sink, but knocks the glass on the countertop, making her drop it and smash it all over the floor. I instantly pull her in, walking her away from the glass as she continues to panic.

I usher Ollie to help pick up the glass and take her into the dining room.

Me: Just breathe, relax. You're okay. I'm here, you're safe.
Scarlett: I'm sorry.
Me: You have nothing to be sorry for. We're safe, we're away from that. You just need to breathe for a minute.
