Our stunt coordinator checks my harness and is happy that it's attached.
Director: Ready, and...action!
I jump off the roof, falling well over 100 feet, only for the carabiner to snap with about 20 feet to go, causing me to land on my feet, but feeling a huge snap on my left ankle, pain coming through straight away.
Director: Cut, cut, cut, cut!
EMT's come running onto set as I'm lying, biting my hand in such pain. They instantly compress my ankle. Scarlett follows closely behind.
Scarlett: Are you okay? What else hurts, your head? Is your head okay?
Me: I'm fine, just my ankle, it's probably broken but it's okay.
Scarlett: Can you make sure you check her head? The EMT nods.
Me: I'm fine honey, honestly. I didn't hit my head, I'm okay.
Scarlett: I know but it was a huge drop.
Me: It's just my ankle baby, I promise, I'm fine. They lift me onto a bed to run me into the ambulance, Scarlett following and sitting beside.
We arrive at the hospital, where an x-ray is done and I'm sat in a private room. The doctor comes in and shows the break in my ankle.
Me: That's a good one!
Doctor: Yup. So good news is that you don't need any reconstructive surgery, bad news is that you're gonna be in a boot for a few months.
Me: Cool, no worries. So no stunts until it's healed then?
Doctor: Definitely not. You got off lightly, people falling from that height usually have quite serious injuries. They fix everything up and put me in a boot, before discharging me. Jack picks us up and we head home.
I sit on the couch with Cosmo with my foot up, when our director calls.
Me: "Hey boss."
Director: "How's it going? What happened at the hospital?"
Me: "Broken ankle, no big deal. 12 weeks in a boot then I should be good to go with physio."
Director: "I thought so. I just thought I'd call to see how you were doing, we'll get a double in to do the rest and stick your face on there another time. You're welcome on set whenever you want, your opinions have made this movie look a millions times better already."
Me: "I might drop in tomorrow just to see everyone and speak to the stunt team, because that carabiner shouldn't have done that. See you tomorrow."Cosmo: Momma said that was a big fall.
Me: 20 feet buddy, I'm a badass. He giggles and cuddles into my side, eventually falling asleep. Rose comes over.
Rose: Can I sign your boot?
Me: You wanna sign my boot? Yeah, go for it.She takes a sharpie from the coffee table and writes "Mom, this makes you look mean. Love Rose"
Me: I love that. Oh, I have something to show you!
I lift the side of my T-shirt up to show a new tattoo going down my side.
Me: You remember that letter you wrote all those years ago? I got it tattooed when I was in London. I had LG go through some stuff to find it for me. What d'you think?
Rose: You kept that?
Me: We kept everything honey, we have all sorts of stuff in boxes in the garage. When Mom's ready, we'll go through it and see what we can find, yeah?
Rose: That's amazing! I love you Mom.She hugs me tightly.
Me: I love you sweetie.
Scarlett: When Mom's ready for what?
Me: I was just showing Rose my tattoo, just when you're ready to go through all the things we kept from when the kids were babies. We don't have to right now, it would just be quite cool for Cosmo to see some stuff that we used to do.
Scarlett: Yeah, yeah of course. Maybe another time though, is that okay?
