Christmas 2016...

It's Christmas Eve. I park up in the building car park after we arrived back in LA a month ago, and get out of the car, heading to the boot and grabbing the bags from shopping. I wander into the lobby and towards the elevator. The receptionist greets me.

Mrs Davis: Good evening Miss Y/L/N.
Me: Hey Mrs Davis, any post for me?
Mrs Davis: Just this.

She hands the pile of letters.

Me: Not much then. Say hi to your kids for me! Oh, and Merry Christmas.

I hand her $500.

Mrs Davis: I can't accept this Ma'am.
Me: Get your family something nice, please. You do a lot for me, too much in fact. Let me do something for you now.
Mrs Davis: Have a blessed Christmas Miss Y/L/N, to you and Miss Johansson. Thank you so much, you have no idea. I'll thank Jesus for you every damn day.

I smile and head up to the apartment. I finally got a sofa bed so I wasn't so uncomfortable. I wander in to see decorations everywhere, even pinned to the ceiling, and dinner on the counter. I dump my stuff by the door in surprise as Scarlett comes round the corner.

Me: What's all this?
Scarlett: You only had a tree, it didn't look Christmassy enough. I hope you don't mind.
Me: It looks amazing! Thank you, you shouldn't have. I've never had this much stuff up at once, it looks like a grotto!
Scarlett: You've done so much for us, this is nothing. What's all this?

She takes the bags from the floor and places them on the coffee table.

Me: Oh those? Just a few presents for you and Rose to open in the morning, it's not much, but at least it might feel a little more like a normal Christmas. I got Rose's wrapped in Avenger's wrapping for a laugh.
Scarlett: You really didn't have to do that.
Me: I know, but Christmas really isn't the same without something to open is it? Where's Rose anyway?
Scarlett: She went to bed not long before you came in. I made dinner if you're hungry?

We head over to the counter where she serves up pasta.

Me: Can't say it's everyday you have the honour of being fed by Scarlett Johansson.
Scarlett: You're so full of yourself.
Me: It's true! I love having you here, I've never eaten so well. If you weren't here I'd be eating takeout every night.

She takes a sip of her wine.

Scarlett: So how was your day?
Me: Hectic. I had a meeting at the office, then had to pick up your dry cleaning, I have a script for you to read and then Anna wanted me to sign some contracts about some random trip they're sending a newbie on. I think she wants me to go and supervise them. Yours?
Scarlett: I met with the lawyers, they came here. Romain's digging his heels in about the divorce.
Me: Did you expect anything less? The guy's a complete narcissist. He doesn't think he's done anything wrong.
Scarlett: I just hoped he'd give in and get on with it.
Me: I can talk to him if you need?
Scarlett: No need, he'll sign them eventually.
Me: Well if you need any help you know I'll make time.
Scarlett: Yeah, I know. I'm gonna take a shower but I'll be back out in 10.

She heads to the bathroom, while I wander into Rose's room as shes's starting to drift off again. She usually has this late night cry, so after hearing her I headed in. As she starts to sleep, I reach over to the nightstand, dimming the nightlight slightly and sitting at the end of the bed. I stroke her hair.

Me: You have no idea how much I like your Momma, do you? I'd do anything to keep you both safe. I hope I get the chance to prove that one day.

After a while Scarlett comes back in, just as I'm leaving Rose.
