Shadows of the Past (Part 1)

A/N: So, this is story is like really old. Apologies, but it does get better.

Third Person POV

"This is, by far, the dumbest idea I've heard yet," Shadow scoffed with his arms crossed. He was standing in the center of Tails' lab, surrounded by Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and surprisingly Amy, and he getting tired of them asking him the same thing for ten minutes straight.

"Please, Shadow!" Tails begged. The dark hedgehog rolled his eyes.

"Why do you even want to time travel anyway? It's not as fun as you think. Trust me."

"To learn more about history and what really happened, or maybe even go see Silver and Blaze!"

"A horrible idea, really," he replied.

"Ah, come on, faker! How hard can it be?" Sonic grinned, and the ebony hedgehog rolled his eyes.

"That's not the issue. It's the fact that I would be helping four idiots possibly destroy the space time continuum that bothers me."

"Hey, we're not all idiots!" the blue blur snapped, and his rival smirked.

"Oh, forgive me. It was just you."

"You won't have to worry about the space time continuum," Tails explained, "We'll be invisible and unable to interact with things. It'll be like watching a movie in 3D!"

"Please, Shadow? Just once?" Amy begged as she stood between the two males to prevent a fight. The dark hedgehog sighed. He wouldn't say it out loud, but she was probably the only one besides Rouge that could change his mind about anything. And he had been taught to always respect a lady.

"Fine, but only so all of you will quit asking me."

The boys gaped at him and how quickly he changed his mind, and Amy squealed.

"Oh, thank you, Shadow!"

"Don't mention it. Ever," he replied seriously. The others agreed rapidly and Tails directed him towards a strange looking machine.

"This shouldn't hurt," he tried to reassure him. Ha! Shouldn't, the striped hedgehog thought, This kid has no idea what real pain is anyway.

Tails began to carefully strap him to the machine and placed small patches attached to wires to his arms, chest, and forehead. Shadow's breathing quickened ever so slightly, and he tried to control it. This was way too similar to a shock test he had experienced a long time ago.

"Don't worry, Shadow. It should only take a second. I just have to set the coordinates. We'll be heading to the past first. I'm setting it for 200 years, so that it won't affect any of our pasts," the kit explained. Everyone stood in a circle and watched as Tails pressed the button.

Unparalleled pain shot through the Ultimate Lifeform's body, and he cried out as he felt chaos energy and electricity course through him in a way he didn't believe was natural. His body pulled and fought against it, but he had been strapped in too tight. This felt even more familiar; he had hoped to never feel pain like that again. The others quickly noticed and tried to help him, while Tails did his best to shutoff the machine. There was a flash of white light, and the five disappeared...

Space Colony Ark

"Man, where are we?" Sonic asked as he sat up and rubbed his head. He heard a few groans from beside him and saw the others waking up as well. As soon as Shadow's eyes opened, he started and flashed his eyes in all directions. No, I can't be back here. Not in this time.

"Shadow? Are you okay?" Amy asked as she walked up to him. He wasn't sure how to reply.

"Dude, what's wrong with ya?" Knuckles repeated bluntly. Shadow's ruby orbs glared at Tails, who shrunk back under his stern gaze.

"You said 200 years in the past. This is less than 100," he growled as he flicked his hands up, "We're on the Ark. I don't know the exact time though, but it is clearly operational as of right now."

The young fox typed something into his communicator, "We are at least 60 years in the past, if I'm right."

Shadow did the math in his head, and his face paled, "Can you give me an exact date? Don't worry about the year, I already figured that, just the month and the day."

"Shads, what's up?" Sonic asked, but again his question was left unanswered.

"November fifth, why?" he replied, and Shadow leaned against a wall for support.

"Today...is the day I woke up."
