"Dan! Dan, wake up! Wake up, Dan, there's a meteor shower! Come on, Dan!"
I woke up, shaken awake by none other than AmazingPhil.
"Bloody Hell, Phil! What the hell are you doing up at this time of night?!" I hissed. I grabbed my phone off the bedside table; 2:47.
"A meteor shower, Dan! it's raining celestial hail!" Phil replied in an excited tone. I chuckled and sighed. "Alright, I'm coming."
I followed Phil down the dark hallway and walked all the way down to the other end, but stopped. Phil had gone into the parlor and was making lots of loud noises.
"Phil? What the hell?"
I wandered into the parlor to see what he was doing. My insane flatmate was pulling down the ladder to the attic. "Phil! Are you crazy?!" I whisper-screamed at him. He was already halfway up the ladder and shouted "Maybe!"
I grumbled; this better be a damn good show.
What I didn't know about the apartment was that there was a hatch in the attic that opened up to the roof of the house. That's what Phil was messing with now, on his knees, prying the door open. A few more grunts of force and BAM! It swung open. "You go first!" he ushered. "Do it!"
After reluctantly giving in, I clambered out of the small port first... and was pleasantly surprised by what I saw.
Shooting stars. Trillions of them. More of them than freckles on Phil's body.
I plopped down on the shingles in awe, and Phil giggled and climbed out. "Move over, please," he said, pushing me. I scooted over to make room for him and he gave a small gasp.
"The heavens have opened. They're throwing tiny flaming crystals down to us."
I laughed and Phil poked his tongue out. "Wow, real philosophic there, Phil," I said, bumping his knee with mine. "I put the 'phil' in 'philosophic,'" he replied. We cracked up.
It must've been ages we stayed up there... but it felt like no time had changed at all, honestly. Just Phil, the meteor shower, and I.
About half an hour into it, Phil rested his head on my shoulder. I grinned and put my arm around him. A soft summer breeze drifted by us, and the moon shone brighter tonight than any other night this week. Finally I felt Phil pick his head back up at turn to look at me. "Dan."
"Phil."
"Do you love me?"
That struck me by surprise... but my heart knew the answer.
"I love you more than all the stars in the sky tonight combined... more than all the meteors... my love for you is even bigger than the moon! You complete me, Phil."
Phil leaned in, his breath sweet, eyes pierced with blue fire. "I love you."
He leaned in to kiss me, and the kiss was even better than anything the sky could show us.
