The rest of the day, Dan pondered telling Phil about the whole instance in the band room, but concluded that he wouldn't. He didn't want Phil to know and get mad at him. Besides, it wasn't like Thános tried to kiss him or anything!

But Dan felt guilty. Oh so guilty. It was so difficult for him to not say anything to anyone, he felt like he was going to explode. His mind was constantly hazy and thinking about only one person: Thános.

He couldn't get Thános out of his fucking head, and it was killing Dan. He was supposed to be with Phil, right? Maybe it wasn't too late to break things off with Phil, but keep lying to Kyle that they were together. But Kyle was in the same grade as Phil, and he'd surely catch on at some point.

And then Dan was triumphantly back to square one: Lost.

At around 12:27, he concluded that he needed to keep his distance (romantically and sexually) between Tháo and himself.

His phone started buzzing. Guess who?

"Hello?" Dan said groggily.
"Sorry dude, did I wake you? Sam invited me to this party on the west end, wanted to know if you'd like to come with."
"Tháo, you know how strict my mom is..." "Yeah I do, that's why I'm offering to drive you there and back. It's no biggie. Just climb out a window or something."
"I mean, I could climb out our backdoor..." "There, see? Not so hard after all. I'll be there in 10."

Then he hung up.

Dan didn't even have time to assess what just happened. He just did it, and was kicking himself the entire way downstairs.

Finally, he heard Thános' old Toyota pull up on the next street over. Goodbye simplicity, hello complications.
