A/N: have you seen the emperor's new clothes music video oh my god {heroes always get remembered, but you know legends never die}

yes anyways hi i haven't posted a story in like ages lmao

thanks a lot marching band... i also got into women's ensemble and chamber choir at my high school, so i guess that's pretty good! haha.

anyways here's not a story (bc i have no free time) but a poem! context (if you want to read it): this poem was written last night after i left my boyfriend-but-not-really's house (i say boyfriend-but-not-really bc i was laying on him and had my head on his chest and he looks down and goes "so are we, like, dating?" and i was like bitch bc we've literally been acting like a couple for a month but we haven't made anything official). we watched back to the future (fitting for back to the future day) and of course we didn't really watch the movie too much but we cuddled and i remember resting my head on his chest and his heart started pounding and it reminded me of how he's not just the loud band kid or the quiet guy listening to music in the back of the classroom, that he's a person i truly care about and is smart and funny and so much more than that. 2009!Phan i guess, highschool!AU, Dan and Phil are young angsty teenagers, Dan's over at Phil's house. enjoy!

to rest my head on your chest with a sigh

and close my eyes and lay easy

and let the dim light of the room

sculpt our bodies tangled together

was to hear your heartbeat

the small drum upon your ribcage

binding you ever so tight to me

and hearing your heartbeat made me feel wonderful

because such an intimate thing as a heartbeat

not romantic or sexual

but to listen to the body live

to remember that you are more than how your friends perceive you

or how your teachers perceive you

or how your parents perceive you to be

is to remember that

you are more than the negativity

you are the beauty rising and flourishing around you

curling around us in an aura of peace

you are the stars in the sky that shed light at night

and you are the music whistling through the trees in the glen

past the fence, behind the undergrowth.

but most importantly:

you are you

and I have never found such a creature

as magnificent or mysterious

or with such a heartbeat

that races as quickly

as you.
