The next morning The Quintet were on their way to class when then spotted Ashla in the hall way.
"Mum!" Jacob called out as they approached her.
"Oh, good morning cubs" Ashla greeted.
"Cubs?" Ron said.
"She calls me and Jacob that from time to time" Harry said.
"Why didn't you tell us you'd be working here Ashla?" Hermione asked.
Ashla looked around for a few seconds.
"Come with me" She whispered as the Quintet followed her to somewhere more private. "So, I assume you know about Umbridge right?"
"That toad faced bitch who where's too much pink?" Jacob asked "Yes we know her"
"Well, Dumbledore believes that Fudge sent her here to spy on him and everyone else. So Dumbledore hired me to keep a close eye on her and report what she's planning"
"How you going to do that?" Linda asked.
"I have my ways dear" Ashla said smiling "Now this must stay between the 6 of us understand?"
The Quintet nodded.
"Good, now all of you get to class" Ashla said ______________________________________
Later the Quintet made their to DATDA class. Jacob and Hermione sat next to each other while Umbridge entered the room making Jacob groan in disgust.
"Good Morning children" Umbridge greeted. She then wrote on the chalkboard using her wand "Ordinary Wizarding Level Examinations. O-W-L's. More commonly known as OWLs"
"I thought this was DATDA, not spelling class" Jacob whispered making Hermione giggle.
"Study hard and you will be rewarded" Umbridge said "Fail to do so and the consequences may be severe."
Umbridge used her wand to hand everyone in the class a book.
"Your previous instruction in this subject has been disturbingly uneven" She said "But you'll be pleased to know from now one you will be following a carefully structured Ministry-approved course of defensive magic."
Both Jacob and Hermione look through the books called "Dark Arts Defense Basics for Beginners" and noticed something odd. Hermione then raised her hand.
"Yes?" Umbridge asked.
"There's nothing in here about defensive spells" Hermione said.
"Using spells?" Umbridge chuckled. "Well, I can't imagine why would need to use spells in my classroom."
"Um, because it's called Defense Against the Dark Arts. It's literally in the name" Jacob said
"You'll be learning about defensive spells in a secure risk-free way" Umbridge said to him.
"What use is that?" Harry asked "If we're going to be attacked it won't be risk-free"
"Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class." Umbridge said sternly. "It is the view of the Ministry that a theoretical knowledge will be sufficient to get you through your examinations, which after all is what school is all about."
"And how is theory supposed to prepare us for what's out there?" Jacob asked.
"There is nothing out there dear boy" Umbridge said "Who do you imagine would want to attack children like yourselves?"
