A few hours later Jacob met up with Harry in Dumbledore's office and saw Slughorn's true memory.
"Sir?" Harry asked as the Headmaster sat down.
"This is beyond anything I imagined" Dumbledore said.
"Does mean he succeeded in making a Horcrux sir?" Jacob asked.
"Oh, yes, he succeeded alright." Dumbledore said "And not just once"
"What are they exactly?" Harry asked.
"Could be anything. Most commonplace of objects" Dumbledore replied. As he and the two Gryffindors walked up to his desk and showed him a ring along with Tom Riddle's diary. "A ring. Or a book"
"Tom Riddle diary." Jacob said "It's a Horcrux isn't it sir?"
"Yes" Dumbledore replied "4 years ago, when you both saved Ginny Weasley's life in the Chamber Of Secrets, you brought me this. I knew it had a different kind of of magic. Very dark, very powerful. But until tonight I had no idea just how powerful."
"And the ring?" Harry asked.
"Belonged to Voldemort's mother" Dumbledore replied "Difficult to find. Even more difficult to destroy"
"So if we destroy each one, it would destroy Voldemort" Jacob asked. "But how would we find them all if we don't know what they are? They could be hidden anywhere."
"True. But magic, especially dark magic leaves traces" Dumbledore said.
"It's where you've been going, isn't it sir?" Harry asked. "When you leave the school?"
"Yes" Dumbledore replied. "And I think perhaps I may have found another. But I cannot destroy it alone. Once again boys, I must ask too much of you"
______________________________________The next day the boys headed up to the Astronomy Tower and saw Snape walking away from the Headmaster and looked at them without saying a word before walking away again.
The two Gryffindors then walked up to Dumbledore as the old Headmaster turned to them.
"Harry, Jacob." Dumbledore greeted. "You both need a shave"
"Look who's talking Professor" Jacob said as they all chuckled.
"You know, at times, I forget how much you two have grown." Dumbledore said. "At times, I still see the small boy from the cupboard and the other I took to Diagon ally. Forgive my mawkishness boys. I'm an old man."
"You still look the same to us sir" Harry said.
"Just like your mother Harry. Unfailingly kind" Dumbledore said "A trait people never fail to undervalue, I'm afraid. The place to which we journey tonight is extremely dangerous."
"Nothing we're not used to Professor" Jacob said.
"I promised you both you could accompany me, and I stand by that promise." Dumbledore said "There is one condition. You must obey every command I give you, without question."
"Yes sir" Harry said.
"I understand" Jacob said.
"You do understand what I'm saying?" Dumbledore asked as the two Gryffindors nodded. "Should I tell you to hide, you hide. Should I tell you to run, you run. Should I tell you to abandon me and save yourselves, you both must do so. I need your word boys"
