"Cheers?" Veer smiled and Aastha sat next to him, clinking their cups together.

There was something that was drawing her towards him. Aastha had never felt that way before. Surely, she had crushes in college. She had interacted with those crushes with giddy eyes and a shy smile. But no one made her heart race, not like this.

Aastha remembered the first time she had met him. While it didn't end well, she remembered the touch. The jolt of electricity she had felt when their skin had made contact with each other.

Strangely, it happened again and whenever he would hold her hand. Especially her wrist. She hadn't felt that spark when she wrapped her hands around him during the bike ride. The spark she felt every time he held her wrist was strange. It was as though if he let go of her hand, she would die.

"You are lost." Veer snapped his fingers in front of her face. "Your tea is getting cold."

"This is awkward," Aastha said, looking away.

"What is?"

"Us. We were friends in childhood.. but it feels like a lifetime ago.."

"Maybe it is." Veer laughed and Aastha rolled her eyes in response.

"But I don't remember anything Veer!"

Aastha recalled the dinner table conversations and groaned. They all told her she and Veer were inseparable as kids. Why didn't she remember anything then? "Do you remember our time together, Veer?"

Veer snapped his head at her question. A gulp formed in his throat before he sighed. "Erm...It's a little blurry.. but yes. I remember it in bits and pieces." He drew a sharp breath. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't forget. For a long time, he had avoided every road that led to her. If he hadn't met her, Veer wouldn't have been like this today. Even though it was no fault of hers, he wanted someone to blame for that one thing that had ruined his childhood and thrown him into boarding school. As innocent and as clueless as she was, it was easier to blame her and avoid her like plague.

But the moment he had found out what an unfortunate mess her life was, Veer could no longer stay away. All he wanted was to right everything wrong in her life. He had sworn to let destiny take him wherever he was meant to go.

"How about we start to get to know each other? Will that be less awkward?" Veer asked after a long thought.

Aastha smiled, her heart jumping at that suggestion, "That would be great."

"Hi, I am Veer."

"Hi Veer, I am Aastha."

Veer extended his hand for a shake and Aastha took with laughing. When their eyes met, Aastha couldn't take her eyes off him. She hadn't realized when her hand holding the tea felt shaky. The cup tilted slipping away from her hand, spilling tea over her jeans and Aastha jerked up.
