"Saanvi... I don't think this is a good idea," Aastha whispered, her eyes lingering on Kiara, who stood smirking on the stage, clearly enjoying the chaos she had stirred.
"Why not, jiji?" Saanvi asked, her tone laced with confusion and frustration.
Before Aastha could reply, Kiara's teasing voice interrupted. "By the way... we all know Veer is a great fighter. But what about Aastha? Does she even know how to fight?"
Saanvi spun toward her, glaring. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Kiara shrugged innocently. "Oh, nothing. I just thought if Veer and Aastha are the perfect match everyone keeps saying they are, maybe their skills should match too. You know... for balance."
Saanvi, wasn't amused neither was anyone in the crowd. Distant whispers echoed in the room. "I can fight you," she said, stepping forward.
But Kiara wasn't done. She raised her voice again, her gaze now locked on Aastha. "Oh, so your dear sister doesn't want to? What's the matter, Aastha? Are you scared to fight me?"
Now all eyes were on Aastha. Confusion, and concern vibrated in the crowd. Kiara smirked, sensing her words had struck a nerve. "I mean, I'm not even that trained. This should be a cakewalk for you, right? Or does the royal princess not have the spirit everyone claims she does?"
Aastha felt the weight of everyone's gaze, the whispers and murmurs growing louder around her. Her cousins and friends began urging her forward, while a few voiced their concerns about her health.
Veer, who had been watching quietly, stepped in. "Aastha, this is ridiculous. She's doing this on purpose. Let's not entertain her games. Come on, let's go," he said, taking her hand to lead her away.
But Aastha didn't budge. She gently pulled her hand from his grip and squared her shoulders. "It's okay, Veer," she said calmly.
Then, lifting her head, she addressed Kiara directly. "I'll fight you, Kiara."
The crowd erupted in cheers, their excitement filling the air. Kiara's grin widened as she clapped her hands theatrically. "Ladies and gentlemen, the royal princess has accepted the challenge!"
Aastha took a step forward, but Veer grabbed her arm again, his expression unreadable. Saanvi and Suraj quickly joined him, their faces filled with worry.
"Jiji, this isn't a good idea. You've only had basic training. You're not ready for something like this," Saanvi whispered urgently.
Aastha turned to her sister with a reassuring smile. "I'll be fine, Saanvi. It's just a friendly match."
"But Aastha..." Veer began, his voice firm.
She placed a hand on his arm, her tone steady. "Relax, Veer. Kiara isn't trained either. I can handle it."
