As June arrived with a gentle breeze, Aastha realized that it had been six months since she and Veer started their relationship. After finishing her work at the office, she was surprised by her colleague Harika, who was in the mood for some delicious ice cream. Aastha laughed and followed Harika to the nearby ice cream shop.
"I can't believe the apprenticeship is ending!" Harika pouted sadly.
Aastha had mixed feelings about it too. Not only was her work contract ending, but she was also worried about her future with Veer. Both of them had agreed to focus on the present and avoid discussing their life beyond Kasauli. However, now that the present had turned into the future, what was once months away was now just a few days away.
"Let me guess, you're lost in thoughts of your love?" Harika teased Aastha, poking her forehead with a fork. Aastha scowled wiping her forehead with a tissue but couldn't help blushing at the mention of Veer.
"I don't understand why you're so worried. Veer seems like he would bring his baraat to Roopgarh the moment you visit home," Harika said with a shrug. Aastha laughed, feeling her cheeks heating up.
"That's not true," she protested.
"Oh, come on! He clearly can't live without you even for a moment," Harika replied, sticking her tongue out at Aastha. Aastha couldn't help but smile because it was true. She couldn't live without Veer either.
Despite Harika's perception of their relationship, Veer and Aastha shared a deep love that was hard to describe. Veer was incredibly protective of Aastha, and she knew it was for a good reason. Even though he didn't say it out loud, Aastha realized there was some danger to her life. Veer was going the extra mile to keep her safe. While her family was unaware of what the danger was, her brother knew it. For that very reason, she didn't question either of the men for their protective streak. Veer's nature of love, never once suffocated her. Instead, she felt her individuality get a whole new dimension with him. Aastha still had the same freedom and privacy of living by herself. Though Veer lived right next door, he came to her only at night to her place, when he was sure she was done with her work. He did look after her, but without ever making her feel caged.
There were a few changes to her routine though. Before she would tag along with Harika to her workplace or grab an auto. But Veer had now assigned her his most trusted driver for her travel arrangements. Sometimes, she would simply go out on long walks or shopping with Veer, hand in hand, joking and teasing each other. To be very frank, the two of them were like a married couple, and he made her feel like she was right where she belonged.
As Aastha blushed at the thought, Harika interrupted by saying, "Oh wow, look who's here."
Aastha saw Veer's bike pull up outside the ice cream shop and immediately felt the excitement bubble inside her. He had gone to Umangiri two days ago for some urgent work and she hadn't seen him since.
"I should leave now," Aastha apologized to Harika, who giggled back at her. "Jaa Simran jaa, jee le apni zindagi!" Harika quoted a famous Bollywood dialogue. Aastha playfully smacked her friend with a tissue box before hurrying out to meet Veer.
