However, the connection would be from two centuries ago, she never could have imagined.

Aastha stepped back, letting go of his and staring at him in aghast. "What did you just say?"
Veer drew a sigh and dipped his hands into his pockets. The warmth he had felt a while ago, had gone. His hands felt frozen under her shocked gaze.
"I remember my previous birth... I promised to marry someone. I have to find her, Aastha."
It took her a few minutes to let the words sink in. Once it did, she bit her lips. Looking away from him, she walked back to where the idol of Maa Durga stood. Staring at the Goddess, she mumbled, "You are reincarnated. So you think, the one you were supposed to marry, also reincarnated?"
"I don't know. I strongly feel so. See, I know this isn't something anybody would believe. Hell! It took me ages to accept my reality. I don't expect you to understand or trust-"
"I trust you, Veer."
He shut up and looked at her, "You do?"
Aastha drew a sharp breath, wiping away the lone tear that was dancing in her eyes. She turned around to face him, "Yes. If you say, this is your rebirth and you are destined to meet someone, I trust you."
He couldn't understand her. No matter how hard he tried, there was something about her, that struck all the chords of his heart, rendering him numb.
"Aren't you curious about my previous birth?" He asked when the silence and her intense gaze became unbearable.
Aastha shook her head, "No, Veer. I don't want to know." She said and then added after a pause, "But I do have something to say."
"What is it?"
Glancing one last time at the idol of the Goddess, she walked towards Veer and stood in front of him. Veer pulled his hands out, hoping she would hold them again. But, instead of reaching out to him, Aastha folded her arms against her chest. "Sometimes, the past has to be left where it is, Veer. I love History. Because I love exploring what our ancestors did. I learn from it, so as not to repeat certain mistakes that might have led to disasters."
He squinted his eyes at her in confusion, "I don't understand."
"Trust me, Veer. My existence is proof that certain things, should be left where it is. My curiosity led me to an unchartered space in my mind... you can see the result of it."
"I am responsible for your condition! If that.. incident... hadn't happened.." He stepped forward, holding her shoulders on both sides.
"Have you forgotten? You saved me that day. I was the one who entered the fort despite you telling me not to. I was the one who hid from you and took off exploring every nook of the fort. I was the one who ended up in that parapet."
"And then I came... and then..-"
"I don't want to recall that dreadful incident." She pushed his hands away. Veer stepped back.
