Aastha was in deep sleep when Shivani wheeled Veer inside Aastha's room. Vaishali had sent her family away for a dinner break and promised to look after Aastha in their absence.
The moment she saw Shivani and Veer, Vaishali got up from the couch and walked over to where they stood.
"How are you, Veer?" Vaishali asked her voice a mere whisper not to wake Aastha up.
"I am fine. How is Aastha doing?"
"Look for yourself," Vaishali said before taking control of Veer's wheelchair and taking him towards Aastha's bed.
"Doctors have given her sedatives. She should wake up by morning." Vaishali said.
Veer stood up from the wheelchair carefully. His neckband was in place and he took calculated steps towards Aastha. "You wanted to see her, I will give you a few minutes. But, please don't wake her up." Vaishali said before stepping out of the room with Shivani.
Veer sat on the bed next to Aastha and drew a sigh. He recalled both their childhood and present memories. No matter how much he gave it a thought, he had a nagging feeling at the pit of his stomach that told him, he was a danger to her. Every time they were together, Aastha got hurt. In their childhood, she fell off the roof. Now, she faced her worst nightmares and lived through them.
He caressed her cheeks without touching her. The silly marriage they performed as kids and Aastha's remarks about it the other day washed over him. Why did he have such a strong connection to her?
He had a purpose in life but every road led to Aastha, why?
"But justice will be served. Mohan will find her Avantika... very soon."
Aastha's words echoed in his ears, he immediately withdrew his hands and stumbled back to his wheelchair. Aastha was Avantika? He thought hesitantly. No, that's not possible.
His stomach churned and his heart raced. He couldn't believe the words his mind had concluded. But the fact is, whatever she was in her previous birth, she was Aastha today. The Aastha, who was his best friend. The Aastha with whom he never wanted to be separated. The Aastha, who had managed to crawl into his cold heart and settle there royally.
But, what if she is indeed Avantika? What if she recalls her previous birth?
As he thought back to his previous birth, he recalled the faces of Avantika and Radhika. The two princesses were split images of each other. Yet each had their own aura, character and radiance that set them apart. However, Veer couldn't exactly recall other minor details. Veer's memories were there, intact minus his death. But memories aren't videos that you can easily play, pause, forward or rewind whenever you want to. Sometimes memories can be deceiving, sometimes they have a way of mocking you.
Veer didn't inherit the same facial features as his previous birth. This was one of the reasons, why he didn't believe he was Mohan initially. Even though his face was different, he couldn't argue with things he knew and the memories he recalled, right?
