"I don't know why I am helping you!" Saanvi grumbled, sneaking into the security room.
"Because I have saved your ass more times than anyone could count!" Aastha groaned, pushing Saanvi ahead who only fretted some more. Pulling her out of the pyjama party their cousins had organized wasn't something Saanvi expected Aastha to do. But here she was, in the middle of the night, inside the security room with a bunch of guards watching over the CCTV camera footage.
Shyamjit, the security supervisor, came into the room after his washroom break. Three of his guards were snoring while princesses were fidgeting in the corner.
"Khamma ghani, Rajkumari sa!" Shyamjit bowed, wishing both the princess and itching to wake up his subordinates. He feared that they would be fired for their negligence.
"How can I help you?" He asked as the girls continued to stare at him in confusion.
Aastha took a deep breath, nervousness swarming into every cell of her body. Before she could utter something stupid or blurt the real reason, Saanvi came to her rescue. "Three security cameras on the garden area are broken. Also, I lost my diamond necklace in the garden earlier in the day. Tell me, Shyamjit uncle, what should I do?"
"That's not possible!" Shyamjit was baffled.
"What's not possible? Me losing my diamond chain?" Saanvi asked her hands folded against her chest, defensively while she passed a stern look at the squirming man.
Shyamjit shook his head in tense. "No, Rajkumari sa! I meant.. security cameras being broken..."
"Oh! So I am lying now?" She squinted his eyes. Shyamjit slapped his mouth, scolding himself for disrespecting the princess. Aastha tugged Saanvi's arms, unable to see her tormenting the man who was of their father's age.
Saanvi signalled Aastha to be patient and looked back at the supervisor, "Now, will you help me or not!?"
Shyamjit nodded his head in confirmation, "Of course, Rajkumari sa! Please tell me, how can I help!"
"Simple, come with me and find my diamond necklace."
"Uh.. this time?" Shyamjit looked at his watch and found it was 11.30 PM.
"First of all, CCTV cameras aren't working in the garden area which is a big deal. Second of all, my diamond necklace is invaluable. If Maa sa, finds out I lost it, do you know how angry she will be at me? Do you want to get me in trouble?"
Shyamjit shook his head, "No...! No, Rajkumari sa, I would never intend for it to happen."
"Good, then follow me." She told him, walking out. She tilted her head and signalled Aastha to carry out what she came to do. Once Shyamjit and Saanvi were out of the room, she checked in on the guards, they were sound asleep. Earlier, Saanvi had fed them ras malai, which would put them off to sleep for at least 2 to 3 hours. Aastha didn't even want to know how Saanvi came into possession of sleeping tablets.
