Present day
Aastha and Veer sat next to each other inside the cave temple. Lost in thoughts and memories, both sat there for a long time.
"It was such a childish thing to do." Aastha mused. Veer tilted his head, and looking at her, he winked, "Seemed like a wise thing to do back then."
Aastha pushed him playfully. "Marriage is not a child's play!"
"Oh... so you believe we are married?"
There it was again. The flirtatious comment, grinning dimples and sparkling eyes. Aastha sighed, looking anywhere but him. "It was silly. That's all I am saying."
Veer smiled recalling how earnestly he wanted to be with her back during their childhood. People evolve, memories fade and sometimes, even feelings change, but when it came to her, things were the same. He still felt that strong need to be with her. Would a mere attraction evoke such strong feelings?
True, they were friends in childhood. But they weren't kids anymore. It's been hardly four days since they met and Veer was confused about his heart's reaction.
On one hand, there was someone he was in search of. On the other was Aastha, who pretty much crashed into his life like a soft breeze of wind. What was he to do? Choose the destiny he believed was his or make a new one?
"I can't believe from applying the sindoor to taking the seven round around fire.. We did all."
Veer chuckled, "You are forgetting the part where you insisted you want to lead the rounds. I led the first four and you the last three."
Aastha gulped, "That's how the ritual actually is."
"Seriously?"
"Groom leads the first four and bride the next three. Each of the rounds has its own symbolism."
"In that case, good that, we didn't find the real mangalsutra. I remember tying my chain around your neck." Veer recalled.
Aastha smiled at him. For years, she had a chain tucked safely in a treasure box. Every day she would open it, wonder who gave it to her and place it back in the box. However, when her memories started to surface, the chain and the reason why she had it, had rushed back to her. Pulling out the chain that was now around her neck, she held it in her thumb. "Do you know what this is Veer?"
He was taken aback by the fact that she still had it. It was a gift that his brother had given to him, and unable to control himself, he immediately inspected the chain, recalling memories from his childhood. The pendant bore the emblem of the Thakur clan, a symbol that had been passed down through generations in his family.
"The pendent is symbol for loyalty and royalty of Thakurs" He said. It was exactly what his brother had told him.
"And... a symbol of marriage. In your clan, isn't this chain given to the wife on the day of marriage? And the wife later gives it to her son or daughter?"
