2005, Rudragarh

"I am Mohan... Radhika... witch... kill her... marriage... Avantika..." Veer mumbled as he lay on the ground, his words a mess. The force of Aastha's push had disoriented him, causing him to lose his sense of the present and slip into a haunting dream gnawing at his mind.

"What? Did you say you are Mohan?" Aastha called, her voice shaky as she leaned down.

Immediately he jerked up, and their eyes met. Veer couldn't decipher what was happening and simply blurted out the last thing on his mind, 'Avantika..'

Veer cleared his throat, "Avanti-... I mean Aastha?"

She glared at him and walked away. Distressed and angry, she demanded, "Who is she? Who is Radhika? Who is Mohan? What were you saying?"

Veer rubbed his eyes, tears streaming down his face. The dream he'd just had was so vivid, so real that it left him disoriented. "I don't know..." he murmured.

Most days he barely remembers his dream upon waking up... But this one clung to him, the images and sensations still fresh, as if they'd occurred moments ago. His mind throbbed with pain. "Aastha.. I am not feeling well... let's go please?" He pleaded.

"You should go," she replied, refusing to look at him.

"I'm not leaving you," Veer insisted, grabbing her hand.

"Let me go," she said, her voice unsettlingly cold. Veer frowned and tried to turn her toward him, but she resisted. "Just go."

"I am not leaving you, Aastha.. See! Tejas and Saanvi are coming too. Let's go now, please." Veer pleaded. But she was seething and she turned to face him with pure anger.

"No."

"Aastha... please. This isn't fun anymore! I'm seriously not feeling well, and I don't know what's happening to you. Aren't you worried about your parents? Your brother?" Veer asked, his concern deepening.

"I'm not going anywhere," she declared. "You don't get to tell me what to do! You have no right!" She yelled, her voice echoing off the ancient walls.

"Okay... okay.." Veer mumbled, hoping to calm her down. What the hell was happening? Was this another dream inside a dream?

Had the ghosts of Rudragarh gotten to her? The thought made him shudder. "Aastha... I think... something's wrong. I think... the ghosts of Rudragarh are doing something to you."

"How dare you call me a ghost?!" Aastha screamed. "How dare you!!"

And this time she began to punch and hit him. Veer defended himself and tried to run away from her. He didn't care that she had already left a few marks on his body with all the scratching and punching. "I am not a ghost! I am not! You hear me?" She kept yelling.
