Imagine your significant other recently passed away. It happened so suddenly and no one was really sure how it happened. The police are still conducting an investigation on the case, but with all of the evidence gathered thus far, the authorities said it is more than likely your partner took their own life.
Deep down, you know it can't be right. They never showed any signs, and you both were always very open about communicating your feelings. For some reason, your gut keeps telling you that this sudden death was planned.
When you first received the call, you had broken down crying the moment you arrived at the hospital to see their lifeless body lying on one of the hospital beds. Your parents had to come to get you to physically drag you out of the hospital and back to their house.
For the first week after, your parents insisted that you stay with them so they could keep a close eye on you. Truthfully, you appreciated their adamance because it made the experience a little more bearable to have loved ones lean on.
The moment you returned to your own apartment, you weren't alone either. Your parents had contacted your childhood best friend to let him know what had happened, and Jungkook was already waiting at your front doorstep when you first arrived home. He's been staying with you ever since to keep you company.
"Y/N?" Jungkook searches for you as he ventures into what used to be your shared bedroom.
"I'm in here," you call back from the walk-in closet.
"What are you doing?" your best friend asks softly when he finds you sitting amongst a pile of your significant other's clothes.
"I'm trying to find the shirt they were wearing the day they died," you murmur as you dig through the pile again for the umpteenth time. "I got a call from the authorities saying they still can't find it."
"The shirt? Wouldn't that be at the hospital? They probably have it from when they conducted the autopsy," Jungkook asks confusedly.
"The hospital can't find it, but they have all the other articles of clothing. The staff working on call that night also claim that they never saw the shirt, to begin with."
"Do you know what shirt they were wearing?"
"The pathologist said he found a piece of grey thread on the pants, so I think it was their favorite grey shirt. In fact, I'm almost certain of it because I haven't come across that shirt in the closet yet."
"Y/N, bub," Jungkook sighs sadly, reaching out to place a warm hand on your shoulder. "I don't think you'll find it here. Plus, I doubt being in here, surrounded by things that constantly remind you of them, is good for you."
"Jungkook, I need to do this," you emphasize, gently pushing away your best friend's hand before rising from your spot and heading towards the guest bedroom where your best friend has been temporarily staying. You honestly don't know why or how the shirt could have ended up in the guest bedroom, but it wouldn't hurt to check, right?
"Why?"
Jungkook's question stumps you for a minute. You halt mid-step and the tall male stops behind you to wait for your answer.
"Because I'm convinced their death wasn't a suicide. So, if I can find the shirt, then maybe it will give the authorities more clues about their death," you answer confidently, turning to look your best friend dead in the eyes, before finally entering his bedroom.
"How are you so sure? The authorities are saying it's a suicide and all of the evidence is there to prove it. You can't fight solid pieces of evidence, Y/N."
Your back is turned towards Jungkook as you look through the closet so you don't notice him rushing into the bedroom to kick a piece of grey fabric deep under the bed.
"I- I know, but I just don't want to accept it. I miss them. We were supposed to get married and start a family together. What am I supposed to do now that they're gone? I just feel so alone right now," you cry as you finally break down.
Jungkook's features soften at your sudden outburst and he takes a few large strides to wrap you in a tight hug. You allow your best friend to maneuver your body until you're both sitting on the mattress.
"I know it's hard to accept, and I know you're hurting, Y/N. But you're never going to be alone, okay?" he murmurs as he tucks your smaller frame into his embrace, placing his chin on the top of your head as he holds you. He then leans down to plant a soft kiss on the top of your head before whispering, "I will always be here for you."

Happy Monday, Dalgis, and happiest of birthdays to Namjoon! How did you guys like this Jungkook Imagine? I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone a little bit while I was writing this one. I think I still need to work on the suspense genre, but I'm also not disappointed with the outcome. Hopefully, I'll have better suspense imagines to share with y'all in the future!
Time has been flying and I can't believe it's almost been a month since I started school. I have so much going on but I enjoy how I'm busy and there's never a dull day.
I hope you guys are all staying safe, happy, and healthy! I love you all so much!
Until next week,
Dalgi Jungoo 🍓
