Chapter 38

*Adelyne's POV*

I walked into the RV and seen Carol looking out the window and I sat down next to her. For a minute it was silent and I took and I took a deep breath and exhaled. What could I say? What do I say? How can I help? I don't know what to do."Carol I'm so sorry" I said.She looked at me her eyes were red and puffy. I put my hand on her shoulder and she looked at me with a sad look and it broke my heart. I'm sure I've had the same look on my face when Katie died

."Adelyne I feel so lost"

"That's normal. The pain doesn't go away but it will take time but it'll be okay. I understand" I rubbed Carol's shoulder.

Carol started to cry all over and I pulled her into my arms and she cried and I tried to stifle my cries for her sake. After she cried for a while she pulled away.

"I suppose you understand the way I'm feeling. Our poor girls they're gone"

There it was. The tears that I had been holding flowed down my face and quickly I wiped them away. "

Yeah" I said softly.

"Adelyne I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you cry I'm sorry"

I shook my head and let her know it was okay. I looked at her and we just started talking about everything.

*Daryl's POV*

I helped dig the graves and put Sophia, and Hershel's wife and step son in them and I wiped the sweat from my face. The sun was hot as hell and I hadn't seen Adelyne in hours. I gathered everyone for the service and went to the RV and Carol was looking out the window and Adelyne was in the booth across from her. her head on the table and she was sleeping. Lori came in with me,

"We're all ready" she said.Carol shook her head.

"Why should I go?" she asked.I leaned against the sink.

"Cause that's your little girl"That's when she looked at me and shook her head.

"That's not my little girl. It's some other thing. She didn't cry herself to sleep at night, she didn't go hungry. My Sophia died a long time ago."

Carol walked out and Lori went with her. For a minute I watched Adelyne sleep she was so beautiful and she was my world. Everything I did was for her, I wanted to keep her alive without her I felt nothing and I was nothing. When I was with her I felt like I was someone like I was important. I shook her gently and she groaned, I shook her again and she opened her tired eyes.

"You fell asleep" I said.

"Oh" she sat up rubbing her neck and looked around,

"Where's Carol?"

"Outside we're ready to start the service" I explained.

I watched her face fall and she sighed and got up I put my hands on her slim hips.

"What's wrong?"

Her green eyes looked into mine.

"It's just..its gonna be hard we just buried another little girl. I just I don't know"

I ran a hand through her hair.

"You miss Katie I know, look if this is too hard for you you don't have to go" I explained.

I didn't want Adelyne to be hurt anymore.

"No I want to be there for Carol lets' go."

She walked out of the RV and I followed her. Was she going to be alright?
