The front door slammed behind them, cutting off Megan's voice. The farther away from Thomas that she got, the more Luna calmed down. She was safe, he wasn't coming after her, but now she was worried for another reason. She was worried about Megan and what Thomas might do to her. He didn't care about his wife. He was apathetic, only caring about himself. Luna grabbed Bucky's shirt and stopped him half-way into their yard.
"Bucky, I'm worried about Megan. What if he tries to hurt her?"
"He won't, doll. He needs her to maintain his cover. He's not going to blow months of preparation now."
Luna chewed on her bottom lip and looked back towards Megan's house. Bucky cupped her cheek and turned her head to face him. He could see the way her eyes were clouded over with concern.
"When we get inside I'll go upstairs and monitor the cameras to make sure he doesn't do anything. If he tries, we'll stop him. Okay?"
Luna nodded her head and Bucky pulled her across the rest of the yard and inside. She followed him upstairs and sat watching the cameras that she had planted around Megan's house over the past few weeks. There was yelling, Megan threw a few things, but Thomas remained mostly stoic besides the occasional half-hearted apology. Luna didn't move her eyes from the screen once. If Thomas laid one hand on her, Luna would be out of the house in a heartbeat. She watched as Megan sat crying on the couch, begging Thomas to apologize.
"Anna is the first friend I've made since we moved here, Tom. You've made sure I have no one because you've run them all off. I'm begging you to apologize to her and Noah. I'm so tired of being alone." A choked sob escaped her.
"Shh, it's okay. I'll apologize, darling. Just calm down." Thomas pulled Megan into his arms and smoothed her hair, but there was no emotion on his face. It made Luna shiver seeing how cold-hearted he could be.
Bucky's phone began ringing and saw Nat's name pop up.
"I gotta take this, doll. I'll be back in a minute."
"Yeah. Take your time. I got this." She mumbled back.
Bucky walked into the hallway and shut the door behind him as he answered the call.
"Hey, Nat. What's up?"
"Found some more information for you about Luna and I'm not sure you're going to like it."
"What do you mean?" Bucky's heart rate picked up.
"I was able to unseal her records. Fury made sure the information was hard to get to, but I was able to find out why she was on sabbatical."
"She was in the CIA at the time, so why would Fury mess with her records? Was it a disciplinary thing? She doesn't usually work well with others, so I'm guessing it was some kind of suspension."
"Fury was trying to actively recruit Luna for SHIELD at the time. That's why he had access to her records and that's why he hid her information with help from the director of the CIA."
"Okay, then whatever she did must have been bad enough to affect her chances of becoming a SHIELD agent if Fury was trying to hide it."
"Luna didn't do anything, Bucky. She was attacked. And I mean beaten and left for dead, not just getting thrown around a bit." Nat said somberly.
Bucky's breath caught as he listened to Nat speak.
"She was in the hospital for weeks and then in a rehabilitation center. The only reason she survived is because she missed a meeting with Fury and he showed up at her apartment when he found out she hadn't come into work either."
