The sun was warm on Luna's skin and threatened to lull her into a peaceful sleep. Bucky was sleeping off his jetlag upstairs, but Luna had been awake for hours. She slept as long as she could after they reached the small villa in Greece that Bucky had rented for their honeymoon, but she wasn't able to fall back asleep once she had woken. Her plan was to wait for Bucky to wake up so they could explore the island their villa was on, or head to the beach and dive into the vibrant blue waters of the Aegean Sea.
Luna waited as long as she could, but after an hour it was clear that Bucky wasn't waking anytime soon and she could no longer deny herself the chance to soak up the late afternoon sun. As quietly as she could, she grabbed a dark red bikini from her suitcase and changed before heading downstairs with her sunglasses and a book. After laying the items on a table next to one of the lounge chairs and then headed inside to grab a bottle of water. It was tempting to pop open the champagne Bucky had brought along, but figured it was better to share at least that experience with her new husband.
The sun was dipping closer to the sea when Luna turned onto her back to catch her first glimpse of a Grecian sunset. Oranges and pinks burst across the sky and Luna smiled contentedly. The white lounge cushion beneath her and the warm breeze swirling around her only added to the peace that she felt.
Tony had sent her a text letting her and Bucky both know that while on their way to Greece, Liam had spilled every one of Wagner's dirty secrets. More than they could've ever hoped to learn, actually. Not only did Liam have the smarts enough to record a conversation he had with Wagner explicitly laying out his plan, but he had kept records of every illegal thing that Wagner had ever done. From driving under the influence to human trafficking, the United States Speak of the House was far more corrupt than anyone could have imagined.
Even though Liam had cooperated and given up everything he had on Wagner, he was done. Tony personally spoke with the judge trying the case and received assurance that the only time Liam saw sunlight would be when he was allowed yard time. The moment Luna learned that she was free of Liam for good, it felt as if a final weight had been lifted from her body. From the moment she finished reading Tony's message, the only thing left for Luna to do was begin to build her new life with the people she now saw as her true family.
Luna sighed audibly and pushed her sunglasses onto the top of her head. Her eyes scanned the horizon to catch one final glimpse of the sparkling water reflecting the last of the sun's rays. She'd like to stay longer and watch as the day slipped into night, but her stomach was beginning to protest its emptiness and she still needed to rouse Bucky then take a shower before dinner. Before she could push herself from her chair, her body jolted forward in shock as cold water cascaded over her head and upper body.
Laughter rang out from above her and she tipped her head back to see Bucky bent over the balcony with a bucket in one hand and the other braced on the railing to support his doubled-over form. Usually, her eyes would be glued to his bare abs as they rippled with his laughter, but the anger of being doused with cold water won out.
"JAMES BUCHANAN BARNES!" She screamed up at him. "YOU ARE SO DEAD!"
Luna hopped off the chair and ran into the house, careful not to slip on the tiled floor. She barged into the room to find Bucky leaned against the frame of the balcony door with a smirk on his face.
"Hey, doll. Looks like you don't need a shower before dinner."
"You think you're sooooo funny, don't you?" Luna asked as she walked slowly towards him.
"I'm hilarious." He deadpanned.
"Oh yeah? Let's see how hilarious you think you are when I break that pretty nose of yours."
