"No! I am not spending four hours in a car with him! You're already making me spend two months with the grumpy bastard." Luna threw her hands in the air and yelled at Tony.

"The jet isn't an option, Luna. It's conspicuous and it'll blow your cover." Tony tried to explain.

"If I kill him, his blood is on your hands." Luna said in a deadly whisper and then turned towards the car.

Tony sighed in exasperation and looked at Bucky.

"Try not to aggravate her, Barnes. I know you love to rile her up, but maybe...don't. She'll stick to herself if you just leave her alone."

"No promises." Bucky smiled at Tony.

"Come on, Buck. Luna will play nice if you're nice." Steve said.

"Everyone on this team has tried to be nice to her and she's still an annoying little shit, Steve." Bucky protested.

"Only to you." Tony shot back at Bucky.

"That's kind of true, Bucky. She's cordial with everyone except you."

Steve hated to admit it, but it was true. Although she may not interact with them much outside of their work duties, Luna was usually pleasant with everyone except Bucky. If he gave her a chance, maybe they would actually stop bickering so much.

"I'm not gonna act like rainbows shine outta her ass. We don't like each other, plain and simple. But we're professionals, so the mission won't be compromised." Bucky scowled at Steve. "See ya in a couple months."

Bucky walked away from Tony and Steve. He saw Luna leaned against the car waiting for him. Her hair was blowing in the breeze and she was looking down at her phone. Her bright green eyes raised to look at him as he walked towards her. Maybe he should try to at least be polite. One of them had to take the first step and it would make for a better work environment if they could at least stop arguing with each other all the time.

"You ready?" Bucky asked as he rounded the car to the driver's side.

"As I'll ever be." Luna climbed into the passenger's seat and buckled up.

"Before we leave, I think we should try and clear the air a bit." Bucky turned in his seat to face her.

"Why?"

"Because we're going to be working together for the next eight weeks. We're going to be in situations that require us to be close, maybe even physical, with each other. I think we should try and at least be in neutral territory for the mission."

"Aww, you wanna get physical with me, Bucky?" Luna smirked over at him and batted her eyelashes.

"You know what, forget it. Trying to fix anything between us is hopeless."

Bucky started the car and drove off from the compound.

Luna fell asleep not long after they left the compound. She hadn't slept well the night before. Between the anxiety she felt about spending the next two month alone with Bucky and the nightmare she had a few nights prior, her body was exhausted. She woke up, back and neck aching after falling asleep slumped against the window. She arched her back in the seat and felt her spine cracking as she repositioned herself. She looked over at Bucky and saw his eyes focused straight ahead. From this angle, he didn't look like a complete asshole. He was actually handsome, with an angular jaw covered in dark stubble, perfectly carved nose and cheek bones, and his eyes were a beautiful steel blue color.

Nope. No, that is an observation from your sleep deprived mind. Bucky is an asshole and you've already had your fill of those.

Luna shook off the thoughts invading her mind and focused her attention out the window. She couldn't let herself get close to Bucky. She knew men like him and they were the kind that wrecked your world and shattered your heart without even blinking an eye. No matter how lonely she felt or how different she thought he might be, Bucky Barnes was a hard pass. She'd play the part of the doting wife for the sake of the mission, but as soon as it was over it would be business as usual.
