The compound was unusually quiet for a Saturday night. Luna had barely seen anyone all day despite checking all the places where they would normally be. Bucky had disappeared early in the morning with Steve, Sam, and Clint. Nat and Wanda dragged Vision off somewhere a few hours after Bucky left. They were being secretive, saying that they already had plans, but they wouldn't give Lune the slightest hint as to what they were doing. Tony, Peter, and Bruce seemed to have completely vanished which left her with Thor and Loki.
Anytime she saw Thor, he'd get a goofy grin on his face before Loki elbowed him in the side and his smile dropped. They had avoided speaking to her for more than a few minutes and she found it odd. Thor was chatty and Loki liked to flirt with her no matter how many times she'd told him not to. The fact that Thor was actively avoiding her and Loki was talking to her as if she were any other team member had her hackles raised.
Since her recovery and taking the leap to open herself up to the team, she felt like she had a real family for the first time since her mom died. They had wholeheartedly accepted her as soon as she opened herself to them. But today, the voice in her head that once told her she wasn't good enough was fighting to break free. They were excluding her from something and it was bothering her. Luna spent the afternoon in her room trying to piece together what was going on.
"No, there's gotta be a reason." Luna said out loud as she laid on her bed.
A moment later she jolted up and her eyes widened. Bucky taking off, the girls being evasive, and Thor acting like a child who was bursting at the seams after being sworn to secrecy. It all added up, but that couldn't be right.
"Oh, fuck! He's not. He can't...can he?"
Luna swung her legs over the side of the bed and chewed on her thumb nail as she analyzed every detail of the scenario she had just created in her head. Bucky couldn't be doing what she thought he was. He hadn't been acting any different. Even when he left this morning he was calm and collected. There wasn't a nervous air about him like most men would have when they're getting ready to propose.
"If I'm right, what the hell is my answer going to be?" Luna said, continuing to talk to herself as she worked through her panic.
"On one hand, Bucky is the most amazing guy I've ever met. He's so sweet and patient. He's never pushed me into anything that made me uncomfortable and he respects my decisions." Luna stood from the bed and began pacing the room. "But, I'm also not sure I'm ready to be engaged again. I mean, hell, I'm still learning how to open up to people. Besides, what if I'm a shitty wife? I'm no Martha fucking Stewart by any means. What if that's what Bucky wants?"
Luna sighed heavily and fell back on her bed. They hadn't talked about what their future looked like. Bucky grew up in a time where women had kids and took care of the home. That wasn't Luna. She wasn't made to spend her life cleaning and running after kids while Bucky jetted off to save the world.
Hours ticked by as she went back and forth with herself about the possibility that Bucky was going to propose and what her answer would be if he did. She texted him to ask what he was up to, but he just responded that he was hanging out with the guys and he'd be back later. It wasn't sketchy, but Luna still felt that something about his answer was off. Call it a gut feeling, call it woman's intuition, call it whatever the fuck you wanted, but she knew something was weird about the way Bucky and everyone else was acting.
"Ms. Woods." FRIDAY's voice rang out from the overhead speaker causing Luna to jump. "There is a delivery for you at the main entrance of the compound."
"I wasn't expecting a delivery." Luna responded in confusion.
"It's from Mr. Barnes."
"Yep, definitely weird." Luna mumbled.
