Carla's POV

Groaning, I rolled over to my side and reached for a pillow to cover my face with so that I could ignore whoever was trying to wake me up. I couldn't find it, "What," I moaned, my face still pressed into the couch.

"Have you been sleeping lately," I heard someone ask, I groaned.

"Fuck," I muttered, lifting my head and looking at my mother and Cynthia, who was Mom's best friend since she was ten. "What," I asked, starting to sit up and Mom sat down beside me.

"You've been having nightmares again, huh," Cynthia asked, sitting on the coffee table next to my bag.

I shrugged, looking down at my lap, "Of course not," I answered, yawning, Cynthia scoffed.

"Liar," she told me, I rolled my eyes at her.

"Shut up."

"Why didn't you call," Mom asked, wrapping an arm around me, I sighed.

"Cause having people around doesn't seem to help, besides, it's not a police emergency," I answered, shrugging, Mom flicked my ear which caused me to move away.

"It doesn't matter if it wasn't a police emergency," she told me, I rolled my eyes.

"Mom, I'm okay," I told her, shaking my head. "Having people around after nightmares freaks me out more sometimes."

Cynthia shook her head, "How long have you been home," I shrugged.

"End of second period, I fell asleep during Chemistry and Derek and Mr. Wilson woke me up. Then I was told that I had to go home, by both of them and Derek drove me home. I fell asleep in like two seconds of getting in my truck," I answered, we heard the doorbell go off and I let out a breath. "I'll get it."

I headed for the door, letting out a breath and opening the door, "Derek?"

He shook his head at me, "You're supposed to be sleeping, I was expecting to talk to Hannah," he told me, giving me a half smile.

I shrugged, "You can take that up with my mothers yourself, they woke me up a few minutes ago," I answered, he nodded.

"Can I come in?"

"No."

He rolled his eyes at me, "Hannah," Derek called, I shook my head.

"Get in here, Derek," she called back, he smirked at me as I stepped out of his way.

"What are you a vampire? Can't come in without invitation," I asked, he snorted as we walked into the living room.

"Shut up, Princess," he said, nudging my arm with his elbow, I rolled my eyes.

"Whatever, Vamp."

Cynthia snorted and shook her head, "What are you doing here, Derek?"

He shrugged, glancing at me for a second, "Making sure she was actually sleeping and getting her the homework that she missed," he answered, I nodded.

"What did I miss," I asked, falling back onto the recliner, Derek shrugged, sitting on the arm of the couch.

"We have to write a short story together and I don't know about the class we both missed," he answered, I nodded.

"Cool." The doorbell went off again and I shook my head, "Not it," I said, Mom and Cynthia both groaned as Derek snorted.

"I got it," he said, getting up, shaking his head at me, I stuck my tongue out at him as he flicked my leg while passing me.
