Carla's POV

I walked into the bathroom and walked over to the sink, taking a deep breath and looking at myself in the mirror. "Mom, didn't deserve a daughter like me," I said, sniffing and wiping tears off my cheek.

I heard a toilet flush and I froze, wiping tears away and trying to hide it, "Fuck," I muttered, a stall door opened and someone came over to me.

"Carla," someone said, I glanced at her to find that it was Rylee. Rylee was a grade younger than me and we were kinda friends and I've babysat her little brother before. "Are you alright," she asked, washing her hands.

I sniffed and shook my head, "I'm fine," I answered, looking down at the sink.

Rylee let out a breath, "Carla, you aren't fine, I heard what you said," she told me, I gulped and shook my head. "You're a good person, Carla, and I'm sure your mom loves you," she said, putting a hand on my shoulder, I shook my head.

"It doesn't matter," I muttered, that was when I heard thunder and flinched. I groaned, "Why does everything have to get worse," I asked, running my hands through my hair.

"You don't like thunder," Rylee asked, I shook my head.

"No, I don't," I answered, as I glanced at her.

"Maybe you should go home," she told me, I shook my head.

"I can't skip, I skipped yesterday, I can't miss anymore clas-" I was cut off by thunder and I covered my face. "I can't do this today," I muttered, my breathing was starting to go ragged.

"Carls, what will help," Rylee asked, I shook my head.

"I-I don't know," I muttered, she rested her hands on my shoulder as I let out a shuddering breath.

"What class do you have next," she asked, I shrugged.

"Chem," I said, glancing at her as she nodded.

"Who can help you in there," she asked, I shook my head.

"Derek," I answered, I said it without thought, he was just my immediate go to.

"I'll go get him, then," she said, starting to head for the door and I grabbed her arm, shaking my head.

"No, Rylee, it's fine, I just need to breathe for a minute," I said, Rylee let out a breath. "Just give me a minute," I said, leaning back on the counter, she nodded, crossing her arms.

She sat with me for a bit before we both headed out of the bathroom, going to our separate classes, "I'll see you next period," she called, I nodded.

I walked up to the door of the chemistry classroom and stopped before going in, "Confidence," I muttered, wiping tears off my face and taking a deep breath, "confidence."

I opened the door and headed to the only seat left in the room, which was beside Derek, I sat down and grabbed out my notebook. I was about thirty seconds after the bell and knew that I wasn't in trouble for being late, "You good," Derek asked, looking at me, I shrugged.

"I'll be fine," I answered, resting my chin on my hand and opening my notebook to take notes.

There was a loud clash of thunder and I flinched, unable to stop it, Derek tapped my desk and I glanced at him. He held out a pair of earbuds and I took them, plugging them into my phone and putting one in my ear. I turned on my music and kept taking notes.

I walked into my creative writing class with Derek behind me, I saw Rylee in the second row from the back and she waved at me, giving me a smile. I nodded at her and went to the seat behind her and Charlie, Derek sitting beside me as I pulled out my laptop. I created a new document and shared it to Derek's account. I stared at my computer screen, trying to come up with something to write about.
