As I walked back to the room, all I could think about was going back to sleep. But of course, I knew I'd be woken up several more times before duties for the day began. Hopefully, Levi had been able to at least put Emi back to bed.

I loved that girl with all my heart and then some, but goodness, I just wanted to sleep. I made my way through the now-familiar building back to our room, and I slipped inside quietly. The room was dark, which was a promising sign.

"Levi?" I called out quietly just in case he was already asleep.

"Shh," he hushed from the bed. "Brat just fell asleep. She's in the crib."

"Oh, good," I said, pulling my shoes off and lying them by the door silently. "What finally did her in?"

"...I sang to her."

As soon as the words registered properly in my mind, I nearly gasped aloud in shock. Instead, my mouth dropped open as I approached the bed.

"There's no way I missed that," I said as I pulled the covers back and sat on the edge of the bed.

I turned my body to face him, getting comfortable on the cheap pillows we'd been provided. Levi, laying on his side, reached out and tugged on my shirt, silently telling me to hurry up and come back to cuddle with him, because for as much as he complained about me being needy, he craved my touch just as much, especially at this unholy hour.

As soon as I was under the blanket, I was pulled against Levi's chest. "You're cold," he said quietly, decidedly avoiding what I'd said before.

"It's a cold night," I murmured, snuggling up against him. His arms found their usual places around me, and my own snaked around him to keep him close.

"What did the kid want?"

"He had a nightmare," I explained. We kept our voices hushed, all too aware that any loud noise could potentially wake our daughter up.

"A nightmare," Levi repeated. Sensing the insult from a mile away aimed at the boy, I spoke up before he could continue.

"It was about the man he killed, when we went to rescue Eren and Historia from Rod." He hummed thoughtfully, foregoing replying. "So he's like us now. But don't think you've escaped talking about singing."

"No, no," he mumbled. "I think I've escaped perfectly fine."

Rubbing my arm with his hand, warm and strong, he began to plant kiss after kiss to the top of my head. Knowing that if I spoke up about his affection that he'd stop, I did no such thing. I knew it was just a diversion to keep me from bringing up his singing, but I enjoyed this too much. When he let his guard down and he sighed, his repeated kisses on my head slowing and eventually coming to a stop, I pretended to shiver and ducked my head down further.

"Are you still cold?"

"Mm-hm," I hummed.

In his overly tired state he was needy for touch, and I was certainly not about to pass this opportunity up. Sure, I could've just asked him to hold me closer, but I knew he loved to play the strong supportive spouse role even if he wouldn't say it aloud.

"Come here," he said, pulling me to lay atop him. This way, he could wrap both arms around me and wrap us in the blanket tighter. Since my plan had worked, I smiled and nuzzled into his warmth. "I missed you, baby," he said, his voice tired and raspy.

"Oh?" I asked, closing my eyes. "I was only outside for a few minutes."

"Not what I meant," he said. He moved his head, prompting me to lift mine to look at him. His eyes were half-lidded, the bags under his eyes dark, his hair messy. But still, he was as handsome as ever. "Kiss me."
