When the wagon slowed to a stop at the end of a familiar pathway, I stretched my arms above my head and after a satisfying series of pops, I stood. I thought I'd worked rather fast, or at least that I hadn't wasted a whole lot of time, but apparently, that wasn't the case.

"Hurry up, brat," Levi said, having already hopped off the wagon.

He unlatched the back and began unloading the luggage. Despite the soreness in my protesting limbs from the long journey, I hopped off the wagon too, doing so carefully with Emi's basket – with her in it – held in my arms.

I set Emi's basket down in the yard, placing her so we could keep an eye on her as we unloaded the wagon. Along with our provisions for the trip home, there were the gifts given to us only a few nights ago at her party, our own cases of clothing and personal effects, and file after file of documentation that we were to read through, review, and report to the military heads and to the governing body.

Hange may have said she didn't want to give us as much paperwork as Erwin had, but I think after only the year and some-odd months she'd been in charge, she was well on her way to surpassing him. What people said and what really happened were two very different things - not that I minded, though. For something like that, Hange's hands were pretty tied, and besides, she was organized.

Still, work was work, and it'd have to get done eventually. When the last of our things was unloaded, all that was left was the leftover materials to be sent to HQ. And the wagon wasn't to be stored here at home, of course, so when the back was latched closed again, Levi hopped back up into the front seat, taking the reins into his hands.

"I'm going to drop the rest of the shit off," Levi told me, looking down at me. "Will you be alright on your own?"

"Of course," I answered, gesturing to the bags and boxes scattered around the yard. "I'll organize all of this." I turned and picked Emi up out of the basket, setting her on my hip. "But first, I'll get our little one settled in."

"Good," he said, shifting in the seat. "See if you can't get her down for a nap. Because when I get back, you're all mine. Got it?"

"You certainly work fast, Levi," I said, smirking now. "At any rate, I'll try my best. Be quick, love."

When he set off towards the base, I wondered briefly if perhaps we should've headed there together, because without having anyone occupy it in weeks, the Survey Corps base was bound to be terribly filthy. Without help, well...

"Uh oh," I said to Emi. "Papa might be gone for longer than expected."

"Uh oh," she repeated. I chuckled as she clutched my shirt and turned her head, looking towards the house. "Home?"

"Yes, dear," I cooed when she looked back up to me, her gorgeous, innocent blue eyes meeting mine. I brushed my nose against hers, making her smile. "Finally, we're home."

I brought Emiko inside, setting her in her nursery to play for now. Aside from some dust lining the crib and shelves, for the most part it was rather clean. I left the door open just a crack so I could hear her as she played with her stuffed animals in her crib. I headed back outside and started the tiring task of bringing everything inside.

I didn't bother closing the front door once everything was brought inside from the pathway. Instead, I opened all the doors and windows, airing the house out. It was mid-morning, so there was still plenty of day left, and what a day it was; it was one of those beautiful, perfect fall days where the sun was warm, but the air carried on the breeze was brisk and cool. The trees lining the yard and off in the distance were no longer green, but already tinted with red and gold.
