Chapter 5

I woke up.

Oh shit. Today is the day.

~Time Skip~
Me and Finch were walking down Yokohama.

"Oh God... I'm nervous." I mumbled.

"For what?"

"Meeting everyone!" I said, "What if they don't like me?"

"I'm sure they will. You're a likeable person."

"Hopefully.."

~Time Skip~
I noticed a red brick building.

"Oh, shit. There it is."

"It's alright. Take a deep breath and relax. Then whenever we're done, we get me Cheeto puffs."

~Time Skip~
I walked out of the elevator and walked down a hallway. I stopped whenever I saw a door.

Armed Detective Agency

I looked at it nervously. I took a deep breath.

I opened it and stepped inside.

"Don't move!" Someone shouted.

I froze in place.

There was someone on what looked to be the desk Ranpo sits at.

Wait... Junichiro?

There was...Naomi beside him tied up. She looked terrified. Other people who looked to be clerks were scared.

....I'm in the exam?

I slowly took a step.

"Don't move, I said! Who the hell are you?!"

"U-uh..."

I realized Finch was in the bag.

Coward...

"Do you work here?!"

"No.."

"Then state your reason for being here!"

"I'm.... I'm a- I'm the health inspector!"

"Health inspector?"

"Yes, there's been a weird smell coming from this building. I was sent to check this office!" I lied. "But... Now that I see this situation.. hear me out." I slowly took another step. "Look, I get life sucks, and it does.. but you shouldn't throw it all away like this.. you got potential, I'm sure you do!"

"Stand back or I'll blow this place up!"

"What?! Calm down! There's no reason for this!"

"Don't make me hurt this girl!" He grabbed Naomi. Her eyes watered.

"Oh, just think what your mother would say if she saw this." I said.

He looked stunned.

"Yup. Throwing it all away whenever she wanted good for you. What a shame."

"I..."

"Well, I'm not happy with my life either! Why don't me and you go look for a reason to live, alright?!"

"No! I plan to get revenge on the Armed Detective Agency!"

"Finch. Go."

Finch flew out of my bag and grabbed the remote from his hand.

"Wha-" Junichiro looked surprised.

"You know what to do." I said and kicked Junichiro. I grabbed Naomi and pushed her away from him. I grabbed Junichiro by the writs and pinned him down.

Finch was pecking his head.

"Ow! Ow!"

"Keep him there." I said and went to Naomi. I removed the cloth covering her mouth and began untying her wrists. "Are you alright?"

There suddenly was loud clapping from behind me.

I looked behind me.

Ranpo Edogawa... Akiko Yosano.. Kenji Miyazawa.. Osamu Dazai, Doppo Kunikida, and Mr. Fukuzawa we're clapping beside Ranpo's desk.

Junichiro was still on the ground as Finch was pecking him, "Ow.."

"L/n. You passed the test." Mr. Fukuzawa said.

Finch looked up, "Huh?"

"I-I did?" I said.

"Welcome to the Armed Detective Agency."

~Time Skip~
"Oh, brother! I loved being the hostage for you!" Naomi gushed.

We were in a cafe below the Agency.

"It's so great to finally have another woman in the Agency." Yosano was sitting beside me. "I'm Yosano."

"O-oh. Thank you." I was sitting by the window. "Nice to meet you, Yosano."

"It's nice to have you with us!" Kenji said. "I'm Kenji!"

I smiled.

Now that I see it... Atsushi and Kyouka aren't here..

"As long as you get your work done, you'll be fine with me." Kunikida said.

I nodded.

"Now, then!" Dazai exclaimed and grabbed my hand, "Would you join me in a double suicide-"

"DAZAI!" Kunikida hit him with his notebook.

"Uh..." I was caught by surprise.

"Sorry about him... I'm Kunikida..this is Dazai.." He motioned to the suicidal maniac rubbing the back of his head.

"So rude, Kunikida. She would've said yes if you didn't interfere!"

"Actually... I'm not into suicide.. sorry." I said.

"Aw.."

"Dang, rejection's tough." Ranpo was walking over to us.

"This is Ranpo." Kunikida looked at Ranpo, "He's the smartest detective in our Agency."

"Woah! Is that a bird on your shoulder?" Kenji asked me. He was sitting across me.

I nodded. "This is Finch."

"Nice crow." Dazai said.

"I am a raven for your information." Finch glared at him.

"He talks!"

"What's the name of your ability?" Yosano asked.

"The Hazel Wood."

"I noticed you can make him do things you want him to do.." Junichiro said, "I'm Junichiro Tanizaki by the way."

"Oh, nice to meet you, Tanizaki. And yes, I can make him do whatever I want him to. My ability can also do other things, but that's way too much for me to explain."

"No, it is not. You're just lazy." Finch looked at me.

"Do you have an off button?" I said.

"Well, we're happy to have you here." Fukuzawa said. "Exactly, where are you staying?"

"Oh, just an apartment not far from here."

"Very well. You can officially start the job tomorrow. For now, feel free to get to know your fellow co-workers." He walked away.

~Time Skip~
For the rest of the day, I got to get to know my new co-workers. Me and Yosano get along very well. Finch gets along with Kenji. Kunikida seems to have respect for me, and Ranpo likes me too. They all told me what role that had in the Agency and what their ability is. Finch told them about how I can make someone face their deepest fear, Junichiro was very nervous after he said that, but I assured him I'd do him no harm.

I like my new job.
