Prologue

CHOI YEONJUN

(Year 2021 when the 5th and last victim of the notorious serial killer named as Spades has been discovered. It's been a year already after the tragedy and our authorities are still finding clues about the said killer. Did he already really stop killing? What is Spades thinking right now? Despite of the evident killings, why can't the police catch him yet?)

"That son of a bitch will really meet his end sooner or later," our team leader, France stated in anger then turned off the TV.

"This media who only knows is to criticize. They are actually making the situation worst!" Detective Lee raved.

I sigh. "If only have at least one witness about this case. Goddamnit," I cursed and frustratedly throw my eyeglasses on the table.

"Don't worry Detective Choi Yeonjun, we will really catch him soonest!" Hueningkai positively cheered us.

I smiled and stood up from my desk. "Let's go home and have a nice sleep! I just really hope that was his last victim already," I stated.

We all went home that night. I bought some drumstick on the way home and when I reached our house. I'm just humming some music in the back of my head while inserting the key.

"Mom! I'm home!" I yelled when I entered the door and took of my slippers before going in.

I continued walking inside the house where the lights are off. "Mom! Are you sleeping already? Your handsome son is already-" I paused when I felt something slippery in my feet.

I looked down and it's some kind of a liquid but I couldn't recognize well because it's dark. I decided to open the lights and I froze when I saw blood splattered on the floor and even on the wall. Our house is a real mess.

"Mom! Mom! Dad!" I yelled and searched inside the house.

I'm shivering in nervous while opening the door of the rooms but there is more blood in there and in the sheets but my parents aren't around.

"Mom! Dad! Where are you! Please! Please!"

I head outside and open my phone's flashlight to search the surroundings. I keep on calling their names that started to wake up the neighborhood.

Hands shakily, I called Hueningkai's number and told him to come in here this instant. I reviewed the CCTV but it's all frozen. I started crying out loud but then I heard something coming from the bathroom; the sound of the overflowing water, hitting the floor.

The only room in our house that I forgot to search.

I reached the handle of the door and slowly opened it. I fall down on my knees as I saw the whole room filled with red liquid. Bodies of my parents drown in their own blood in the tub.

And I saw the sign that I will never forget. I saw the Spade sign in their foreheads.

I was frozen in there, just crying out loud. I tried to stand up and pulled their dead body from the tub and lay them on the floor. I sat beside them and covered my face while crying so hard.

Why? Why did this happen? Is it because of me? Is it because I am one of the detectives handling his case?

Why!? Why my parents!?

"What!? Why? Why did you turn it over to them!? We can solve this case, team leader!" I yelled.

"Do you think the heads will allow you to investigate with that state of mind, Detective Choi!? Your family is one of the victims and that's enough reason for our team not to handle the case!" he scolded me.

My eyes tears slowly run down through my cheeks. "France hyung, I'm begging you, please. Please re-assign the case to us. I will catch him and put behind the bars. Please, please," I begged, crying.

Our team leader hugs me and rubs my back. "I'm sorry, Yeonjun. We can't. They will just see it as an avenge to your parents. I'm really sorry. Let's just trust team two that they will finally close this."

I left no choice that day but to accept the orders. Maybe, that's the best solution for now. Maybe, they will do a better job. Maybe, I can't right now because the pain is still fresh.

That murder made the nation's fuss. The National Police Agency took an action right away and I got a rest as much as I can. I went through so much that a month wasn't enough.

I couldn't stay in our house so I lived with Hueningkai so someone will accompany me. I've been trying to overcome my fear in bathroom since then.

After couple of months I started working again in minor accidents to keep myself busy but at some point seeing blood and dead bodies in crime scene am making me shake in nervous and the saddest part is they never catch Spade.

What I need right now is the courage to fight and I'm trying, I always do.

I purchased a unit for myself so I'll learn not to depend to Hueningkai anymore and it's working. I'm trying myself because this is the right choice to do. I have a huge fight waiting for me.

But sometimes unit just feel so huge for me.

"Yeonjun hyung," I heard Hueningkai's voice called me.

"Oh, what are you doing here?" I asked him and stood up from the ground.

He smiled, "I went to your unit but you weren't there. So, I figured out that you'll be here again with your mom," he replied.

I chuckles, "Yeah, I j-just can't still believe it. My parents not in here anymore and their k-killer are still around," I stated that made my fists clenched.

"Hyung, that's why I came here," he said.

"What about it?"

"You know Detective Choi Beomgyu of team two, right?" he asked.

"That asshole, don't even mention his name-"

He cuts me off, "I talked to him about something."

I frown, "What about it?"

"We can privately participate in investigating while both of the team leaders don't know. We can exchange information and investigate, by that we'll able to know about the current processes," Huening explained.

"Huening that's-"

"Your parents," he called and looked at the tomb's name. "They were so nice to me. They feed me well and took care of me. I was with your family during holidays because mine are far away from me. Hyung, I want to help you get that justice that they deserves."

I just felt my tears flows down when I heard it from him. "T-thank you so much, Huening. Thank you," I expressed.

He smiled at me. "Let's end that Spades, hyung. Let's make him rot in jail."

Your identity is hiding for now but I will unveil how evil you are, Spades. I will kill you with my own hands even if I need to be a devil like you.

It was year 2022 when Spades came back after a year of being silent and worst; it was my parents who got killed.
