The Highest Order
"I told you not to get in their way, San. Why are you rushing things?"
"We're so sorry, Spades. We didn't expect Spades mafia to meet him face on," a woman apologized.
Soobin stood up and cover San's dead body again with white fabric. He walks away further from it and lit a cigarette then inhaled it. "What about the others?" Soobin asked.
"Most of them got killed by the mafia," she replied.
Soobin just nods. "Okay. I'll see you soon again," he said and put on his hood then started walking away.
"Wait a minute!" she yelled and run towards Soobin who stopped from walking. "A-aren't you going to ask who killed San?" she asked.
"I'm not really curious but who?" Soobon asked.
"That's the first time I saw him. We know Spades mafia's profiles but that one, he's young and I heard San metioned that he's a detective. P-perhaps, do you know him? They went inside the car to talk something and that's where he killed him," she explained.
"Detective?" Soobin muttered. "Okay, I heard enough. I'm going now."
The woman got confuse because of how Soobn reacted. She is already used to see him not giving a damn to anything but San isn't just a friend to him. That's why she's wondering.
"Arin noona, everything's ready," a guy called her.
"O-oh, let see it," Arin replied and they started walking away together.
"But noona, will this be really okay?" he asked the elder.
"Let's trust Spades. After all, everything's going according to his plan. Surprisingly, he's pulling it off well," she paused and smiles. "He can do it. I believe in him because he is Spades."
"You're right. He's the highest order— Spades."
Soobin arrived at Disctrict 10, somewhere far from the main city, away from the sea, and away from most of the people. He's somewhere where his past is alive and fresh.
After passing through tall trees and only memories are pointing him the directions, he stopped when he saw the old house, the house where they locked him up for unknown reasons.
He went closer and see how grass grown taller, vines started to cover up the whole wrecked house with signs of being burnt from ages ago. He takes a seat at the outside woodseat and pulled a bottle of liquor. He opens in and gulped on it.
"I've made it this far. The demon you tried to locked in and kill eventually grow into something hideous. If you just let me do what I want and tell me the truth, we should have come up of a better sulotion," he stated and gulps.
"But still, thanks to all of you; mom and dad. It was a great start," he continued talking to the air. "I know something isn't right with me because first of all why are we living at the top of the mountain, you didn't make me attend school, and both of you always leave me alone— ah right, I'm not alone. Someone's always eyeing on me," he recalled.
"Spades," he mentioned. "I'm Spades. I'm the real one," he added and drank the liquor.
"Am I really that dangerous for you to lock me in here? Well, I said I'm fine with it and I'll do what you both tell me just let me draw like I wanted to but why did dad burn all my colors and beat me up whenever I'm doing it?" he paused and chukcles after wondering. "Is it because am I that bad at drawing?"
Despite of talking to himself, grinning, smiling, and even soft chuckles that are forming from his thin lips, Soobin's eyes began to water and those started falling down.
Since he was a kid, he never felt the love that a kid should feel from his family. They keep on hurting him as if he isn't their own. He never makes friends because he was always alone. He love his parents and he thought that obeying them will make them love him but no matter what he do, he'll just end up with bruises and cries at night.
He is hungry for affection and care.
"I never thought that I'm going to be his friend. But I never thought as well that I'm going to end up killing him. That crazy bastard," he chuckles thinking of Yeonjun. "Hours from now, he'll come at me and we'll both face our death. And no one can stop it."
"What is he going to do? How will he going to deal with the situation if he finds out about the truth? I'm curious."
Soobin stood up and decided to go inside the house. Dusts are all over the whole house, it's still exactly the same when he left it. He paused when he saw their living room and reminded of rare goodtimes with his mom.
"Soobin baby! I bought you cake!"
"Really mom!? F-for me? Thank you!"
"Eat well, baby! Y-you're drawing again? Your dad's coming home so hid it, okay? Let's just eat this cake!"
"But mom why do we have a cake? Is it ny birthday? I thought my birthday is when there are snow but it's really sunny today."
"J-just... Let's just eat it, hmm? Aigoo, my poor baby."
He can still remember how her mom hugs him so tight that day and cried. Every year in the same season and day her mom is giving her cake and eat it without Soobin knowing the real reason behind the occasion.
He just shook his head and continued walking towards the room he was never allowed to enter and this is the first time since he was born that he's going to go inside it.
He slowly pushed the old door and he saw how total mess it in there. There are even blood on the wall that has dried up already, worn out clothes, insects, and rats that are wondering inside the messy room.
Soobin knows there's something in here that his parents have been hiding from him and he started looking for it. He opens the boxes and cabinet but there aren't any suspicious but he stopped when he stepped on something.
He started pulling away the things that are covering the floor and he noticed that a tile can be open. He pulled it up and saw a box hidden in it. He opens it and saw some old pictures on it and unexplainably, there are even baby pins on it.
Soobin nods and smiles while looking at the pictures that he's holding. At some point, he already expected it. He already knows the truth but he just went here to confirm it himself.
"As expected, it was really that woman," he confirmed while holding a family crest.
Choi Soobin went down to the main street after confirming things. He went inside his car and drives off to where he believes everything started— at the orphanage where he first meet Choi Yeonjun.
He then felt his phone vibrating and smiles when he saw the caller ID. "Oh, Detective Choi. What's the matter?"
(Where are you right now, Choi Soobin?)
"I'm at the bridge of the orphanage in District 10. Are you coming?"
(I'm already here, waiting for you.)
Soobin giggles and turn around. He smiles even wider when he saw Yeonjun standing behind him with his cellphone right on his ear. The older is just looking at him seriously.
"We're finally going to end this, are we?"
