One Last Hope

We walk downstairs and make our way to the dining room.

Judging by his satisfied look, I guess he got the outcome he wanted.

In exchange for his help in taming this magical force within me, I'll stay and help them out indefinitely. It's a good deal. I don't feel cheated.

This is all a little too crazy for words. I just found out I'm living with a vamp family and I'm about to sit down and eat dinner like nothing's wrong.

But things are different now. Pretty soon I'm gonna have something to fight back with. I'm not the same person I once was.

As I enter the dining room, I spot Peter in his usual place.

Nicolae: "Where's everybody else?"

Peter: "Lorie's in her room. She wasn't hungry.“

Nicolae: "It's alright, Peter... she knows. She finally figured it out."

Peter gawps at me with a look of shock on his face.

Peter: "How did you...?"

Nora: "Actually, when I think about it, it wasn't too hard to put my finger on what the deal is with you guys. You're not exactly discreet, you know?"

Peter: "You're probably the first person who's ever found out..."

Nora: "What can I say? I've got a gift!"

Peter: "Everyone at Mystery Spell assumes we're just a family of wealthy misfits. Our father is a public figure here... and we're just students. Except for Nicolae. He handles the family side of things."

Nicolae: "And you don't always make it easy for me!"

Peter: "Come on, I'm not the one who gives you the most trouble."

Nicolae: "That's certainly true! By the way, where is our dear little brother this evening?"

Peter: "I have no idea."

Nicolae sighs. I'm not in the least bit surprised that Drogo is the biggest trouble-causer. He's a real free spirit.

Peter turns to me with a gentle expression on his face.

Peter: "Welcome to the family, Nora! For good this time. I hope!"

I'm not really sure if it'll be for good, but hey...

Nora: "I just hope there won't be any more secrets between us... I have a lot to learn from you all... and Nicolae has said he'll help me develop my powers."

Peter stares at his brother with a raised eyebrow.

Peter: "Did you tell her about that too?"

Nicolae: "She was ready."

Peter nods his head and turns back to me again. He's smiling, which is reassuring.

Peter: "Try to be a nice little witch with us poor vampires, won't you?"

I jokingly screw up my nose.

Nora: "No offense, but I don't think I'll be underestimating you any time soon!"

They both laugh in surprise. At least the atmosphere is a whole lot warmer than when I first arrived.

If it continues like this, I could maybe get used to living here.
