The next day, I'm still struggling to realize what happened the night before. I'm on a cloud and I've been smiling stupidly since I woke.

I haven't seen Drogo yet, but we've planned to meet after classes.

I have an exam tomorrow, so I decide to spend the afternoon at the library with Sarah. Obviously, I'm completely out of it.

Sarah: "Seriously, Nora! Concentrate."

Nora: "I am!! Is it my fault if this subject is so boring?"

Sarah: "May I remind you that you chose this subject."

Nora: "I thought it would be more fun!"

She swings her pen over her books and stretches.

Sarah: "Come in! Spit it out! I'm listening..."

Nora: "What?"

Sarah: "Oh, please. You're freaking me out with that silly grin on your face!"

I feel like I need to justify myself.

Nora: "Can't I just be in a good mood?"

Sarah: "There's being in a good mood and there's this! Is it something to do with your vampiric Don Juan?"

Nora: "Don't be like that!"

Sarah: "It's nuts! You're a witch in a relationship with a vampire! Can you believe it? Can you just imagine your children? A little baby vampire?"

I giggle.

Nora: "The only vampire child I know is Lorie... and she's a mess. Imagine her with witchy powers!"

Sarah: "She's not the only mess in the Bartholy family..."

Ah! Here we go again! It's been a while!

Nora: "Stop exaggerating!"

Sarah: "I'm stating facts!"

Nora: "No! You're just being nasty! I usually let it go, but to be honest, I've had enough of all this! What's with all the family squabbles?"

Sarah: "It's all I've ever known!"

Nora: "Well, my life hasn't been like that! I've only been in your world for a few weeks and I'm tired of being stuck in the middle of you guys!"

Sarah: "You're not safe in their house."

It's nothing like she thinks it is! But I'm tired of justifying myself over and over again.

Nora: "You're wrong. I care about them and they care about me. But anyway, I'm tired of repeating myself."

Sarah: "They're using you."

Nora: "You wish they were. If I were ever to convince you, you'd have to question everything you've believed until now!"

Sarah takes my hand. She can see I'm defending the Bartholys tooth and nail. She's so angry.

I know Drogo and his brothers are different. They're really trying to fit into the human world.

Sarah: "I know what you think, Nora. But that's not the way it works. We can't risk trusting them."

Nora: "I could try to understand your point of view if you'd explain what happened between your two families!"

Sarah: "I can't do that!"

Nora: "So... We're at a dead end!"

There's definitely something off between us that there was never before.
