Klaus's POV

I was at my desk, tapping away on the computer when Marcel walked in, followed by Diego. I stood, rounding the desk to stand in front of Diego.

"Shouldn't you be watching Tara? Why the hell are you here?" I demanded.

Diego gulped nervously. "A witch showed up at Davina's house and tried something. I made sure not to be noticed when I took him away. He's locked up in the cellar now."

I patted Diego on the shoulder. "Good work. Now, let's go see this witch," I said with a dark smile.

Tara's POV

We'd taken a break from studying, sprawled across Davina's bed.

"You know we've hot our homecoming dance coming up," Davina said with a sly smile.

"Oh, really?" Rebekah smirked, glancing at me.

"What?" I asked, looking between the two of them.

"Are you going to ask Klaus to come?" Davina teased. "You know he won't let you have a date other than him."

Rebekah burst into laughter. "He was so pissed when Tara mentioned dancing with another guy. I swear, he looked ready to murder someone."

I laughed nervously, fiddling with my textbook. "I don't think he'd want to come."

"That's an excuse," Rebekah retorted, crossing the room with a model's strut. "It won't hurt to ask and if he won't come with you. I will. I love college dances."

Davina and I burst into laughter, falling back onto the bed.

"You know who I want as my date? Kol," Davina said, blushing and smiling to herself.

"Kol? My brother Kol?" Rebekah asked, genuinely surprised.

"Yep. We danced once at that big gala you all hosted," Davina began, but then stopped abruptly, her hand flying to her mouth.

I frowned, confused. Before I could ask, a sharp pain shot through my head. I closed my eyes, clutching my temples as fragmented images flashed before me: a grand gala in the compound, and me speaking to someone in a hallway whose face I couldn't see.

When I opened my eyes, Rebekah was crouched beside me, and Davina was gently rubbing my back, both of them looking worried.

"Are you okay?" Davina asked.

"I think so. It was just a headache," I sighed.

"I think we should head back," Rebekah said, pulling her hair into a loose bun.

I packed up my things, and Davina walked us to the door.

"You go start the car. I need to talk to Davina about Kol," Rebekah said with a tight smile.

"Okay." I hugged Davina and headed to the car.

Rebekah's POV

"I'll put in a good word with Kol," I told Davina. "You should visit the compound. He might notice you on his own without my help."

"Thanks. I'm sorry—I just forgot Tara lost her memories," Davina said nervously.

"Don't let it happen again," I said darkly, folding my arms. "I love my brother, and I want him to be happy. Tara not remembering will give him that happiness."

"What about Tara's happiness?" Davina shot back, her jaw clenched.

"She'll find happiness with Klaus. He'd give her the world if she let him. So be a good friend and don't remind her of what she's forgotten," I said, gritting my teeth.

Davina slammed the door as I walked away.

"Did you two have a good talk?" Tara asked when I got in the car.

I smiled. "Oh, I think Davina understood me perfectly."

Klaus's POV

I strode through the cellar, passing rows of staked vampires, until I reached the torture room. The space was dim, so I pulled the lever to open the skylight, flooding the room with sunlight.

In the center sat a man, shackled to a chair. His eyes tracked me as I grabbed another chair and sat in front of him.

"What were you doing at that house?" I asked.

The man smirked but said nothing.

I stood, grabbing his shirt and yanking him forward. "Do you think I'm playing with you? Who sent you?" I snarled.

When he spat in my face, I sighed, wiping it away. "I tried to be polite."

I turned to a nearby table lined with torture tools and herbs, picking up a pair of clippers. Returning to the man, I smiled coldly. "Let's begin."

With one brutal tug, I ripped off his fingernail. He screamed in agony.

"Who sent you?"

The man's silence earned him the loss of all his fingernails. When that failed, I grabbed a drill, pressing it against his knee.

"What were you trying to do at that house?" I shouted.

The man looked up, his eyes darting to the ceiling. The room echoed with the high-pitched whir of the drill and his agonized screams.

Tara's POV

After grabbing food, Rebekah and I returned to the compound.

"We'll need to go dress shopping soon," Rebekah was saying as we walked in.

"Don't forget about Davina," I replied.

"Mmm," Rebekah murmured noncommittally.

Klaus's POV

I stopped drilling when I heard Tara and Rebekah's voices. Handing the drill to Diego, I ordered, "Keep working on him until he talks. I'll be back."

I vamped up the stairs, arriving just as Tara entered the compound.

Tara's POV

Klaus appeared from the kitchen, walking toward us. He cupped my cheeks and gazed down at me. "Why are you back so early?" he asked, his forehead glistening with sweat.

"I just had a slight headache," I replied.

Klaus kissed my forehead. "Have you eaten?"

"Yes, but I'm a little tired. I'm going upstairs."

"Okay," he said softly.

Klaus's POV

Back in the cellar, I found Diego still working on the man's other knee. I exhaled in frustration.

"Enough," I said, stepping forward. I bit into my arm and forced my blood into the man's mouth.

"I know from my mother that witches hate vampires. If you don't tell me who sent you, I'll turn you into the thing you despise most," I threatened with a smirk.

The man's eyes widened in shock. His lips trembled as he muttered something.

"I can't hear you," I sang mockingly.

"Michael," he whispered.
