Tara's POV
My eyes were closed. I could see my reflection in a lake, tears streaming down my face as I stared at a shadowy figure yelling at me. I was sitting on the floor, surrounded by a pool of blood and dead bodies. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again, I could see the light filtering in through the balcony.
I could feel Klaus's warm body behind me. I shifted, turning toward him, only to see Klaus sitting up against the bedpost, looking down at me. I jumped back, shrieking.
"What's wrong?" Klaus asked, concern in his voice. I pulled the covers over my face, remembering everything from last night.
"Go away," I said nervously.
I heard Klaus chuckle as he gently pulled the cover down from my face. "Are you remembering things from last night? I remember you telling me how hot I am," he smirked.I quickly pulled the covers back over my face, groaning with embarrassment.
"Okay, okay," Klaus said, his voice softer now. He pulled me toward him, my back pressed against his chest. The blanket wrapped around me like a big burrito. I tilted my head to the side so I could see him.
"I want you to know that you don't have to be embarrassed about what happened last night. I loved everything about it," Klaus said gently.
I blushed, pressing my hands into my face. Klaus wrapped his arms around me, and I could feel the heat rising up my neck. But then, a sharp pain shot through my head, and my stomach began to churn. I pulled away from Klaus's embrace and ran to the bathroom. I collapsed near the toilet, bile rising in my throat. I threw up everything from last night into the toilet.
Klaus followed me in, grabbing strands of my hair and holding them back from my face. He rubbed my back soothingly as I emptied my stomach.
Once I was done, I flushed the toilet and sat back on the floor. I lifted my arms toward Klaus, silently asking him to pick me up. He did so, lifting me bridal style and carrying me back to bed, covering me with the blankets.
Klaus's face darkened, and a vein appeared on his forehead.
He left the room for a moment, returning with a towel. He wiped my mouth gently.
"My head is pounding," I said weakly.
Klaus threw the towel onto the floor in frustration. "This is why I didn't want you going to the club. Now you have a hangover," he grumbled, running a hand through his hair.
I sighed and turned away from him, drifting off to sleep.
Klaus's POV
Once Tara had fallen asleep, I went downstairs to meet the maids. It was 7 a.m., and they were preparing breakfast. I found Rosa, the head maid, and asked her to get some pain pills for Tara. Rosa was a woman I had turned into a vampire. She was the closest thing I had to a mother figure. With her pale skin and blood-red hair, she looked about fifty, but she was very short.
After finishing up with Rosa, I went into my study to get to work. An hour later, I heard a knock on the door.
"Come in," I called, my voice tinged with annoyance.
Rosa entered with a pill bottle and a cup of water. I stood and grabbed the pills, then headed back to my room. I could hear Tara's heartbeat, so I knew she was still asleep.
I opened the door and saw Tara sprawled out across the bed. I walked over to her, sitting beside her and gently touching her cheek. Her eyes fluttered open, and she sat up with a heavy sigh, holding her head in her hands.
I grabbed the cup of water and pill bottle from the table, carefully handing her the glass.
She quickly popped the pill into her mouth and downed the water. But then she started choking, gasping for air. I gently hit her on the back until she stopped coughing and breathed slowly again.
A knock on the door interrupted the moment, and I turned my head, telling them to come in.
Rosa entered stiffly, her head lowered.
"What is it, Rosa?" I asked, gently petting Tara's hair.
"Sir, breakfast is ready downstairs," Rosa said softly.
I looked down at Tara, holding her face gently in my hands. "Do you feel like having breakfast?" I asked. Tara looked up at me through her eyelashes.
"Breakfast sounds good," she replied.
Rosa left the room, closing the door behind her. I helped Tara out of bed, guiding her to the door.
"You know I'm not dying, right? I can walk without assistance," she said dryly.
"I know, but I hate seeing you in pain, and I can't do anything about it. So, I want to help," I said softly.
I could see Tara try to hide her smile as we walked downstairs. When we entered the dining room, only Rebecca and Marcel were sitting at the table.
"I see the alcohol didn't go well for you," Rebecca said, eyeing Tara.
I helped Tara into her chair and then sat down in mine.
"I'm never drinking again," Tara muttered, rolling her eyes.
I smiled, though my expression quickly changed when Tara glanced at me.
"I told you it was a bad idea," I teased.
Rebecca rolled her eyes while Marcel smiled. The maids began bringing out plates of food, filling the table with various breakfast dishes: fried chicken, bacon, grits, waffles, and pancakes.
One of the maids passed by, handing me a blood bag. I watched as Tara's eyes lit up at the sight of the food. She quickly piled different items onto her plate and began eating, looking like a cute squirrel devouring her food. I smiled to myself at the sight.
I ripped open the blood bag and began drinking.Tara glanced over at me, her face twisted in distaste. She looked away and continued eating.
"Could you two stop your flirting at the table? It was bad enough hearing your late-night antics," I muttered, annoyed. Rebecca looked over at me, arching an eyebrow. "Really, Klaus? You want to talk about us?" she teased.
"I heard moans and groans too," Marcel chimed in, his gaze on Tara.
Tara blushed, looking down at her food and playing with her potatoes. "Shut up, Marcel," she mumbled.
"Klaus, I need to talk to you," Elijah's voice came from the doorway.
