Tara's POV

"Klaus proposed," I said with a smile, showing Davina the ring on my finger.

Her expression darkened as she muttered under her breath, "That bastard."

"What's your problem?" I asked, crossing my arms. "Aren't you happy for me?"

"I can't be happy about you marrying him," Davina replied bluntly.

"Why not?" I demanded.

She groaned, glancing up at the ceiling in frustration. "I can't tell you why. But for your own good, you shouldn't marry him."

I forced a smile, though her words stung. "I want you to be happy—that's why I'm happy for you and Kol. It seems you're not happy for Klaus and me."

I grabbed my purse from the bed and walked toward the door.

"Wait," Davina called, following me.

I turned and gave her a tight smile. "I hope your date goes well," I said before closing the door behind me.

Outside, I climbed into the car that was already idling.

"To the house?" the driver asked, glancing at me through the rearview mirror.

I nodded, wiping a tear as I stared out the window.

Driver's POV

"Sir, I believe Tara and Davina were arguing," I said into the phone.

"Perfect," Klaus chuckled on the other end. "What would you like me to do?"

"Bring her straight home," he instructed before hanging up.

Klaus's POV

I sat in my office, sketching plans for the wedding's security. I detailed the compound's layout, marking where the guards would be stationed.

I heard the sound of footsteps and the familiar rhythm of Tara's heartbeat. The door opened, and she walked in, her face streaked with tears.

"Tara," I said softly, pulling her into my lap as she began to cry.

"I don't understand what you did to Davina to make her hate you," she mumbled against my chest. Sniffling, she pulled back and folded her arms. "We argued about us getting married."

I stroked her hair, keeping my voice calm. "She's never liked me, love. We can uninvite her from the wedding if you'd prefer."

"No!" Tara exclaimed, shaking her head. "As her friend, I hope she can put aside her feelings and be there for me."

I hugged her tightly, a small smirk forming on my lips. "Give her some space. She'll come around," I said, my tone deceptively soothing.

As she sat straddling my lap, her legs on either side of mine, I thought to myself, This is exactly what I wanted. Tara was all mine now. With Davina out of the picture, I wouldn't have to worry about their meddling friendship for a while.

Davina's POV

After watching Tara's black SUV drive off, I slammed my door shut.

"I was trying to help her," I muttered to myself. "If she had her memories, she'd never marry Klaus willingly."

I sat down on my bed with a groan, staring at the outfit Tara had helped me choose.

"I need to stop worrying about her and focus on my date," I said, shaking my head.

I got ready, slipping into the red dress that flared out just above my knees. Matching sandals completed the look, and I tied my hair back into a neat bun. A swipe of scarlet lipstick finished the ensemble.

My phone buzzed on the bed, and I picked it up.

"Ah, what shall I do?" Kol teased on the other end of the line. "I'm outside, but my date is nowhere to be found."

"Ha-ha," I said dryly. "I'm coming out."

I hung up, grabbed my purse, and flicked off the lights.

When I stepped outside, I was greeted by an old red Chevrolet. Kol climbed out, grinning as he opened the door for me.

"Aren't you cute, darling? You even match the car," he said with a mischievous smirk.

I rolled my eyes, biting my lip to hold back a laugh. Once we were both in the car, I asked, "So, where are we going?"

He flashed a secretive smile as he started driving.

"So..." I said, glancing at him.

"Have you ever not needed to know the plan?" he teased.

"You're so uptight," he added with a chuckle.

I scoffed. "Well, would you be normal if you'd spent most of your teenage years locked in an attic?"

Kol's expression softened as we stopped at a red light. "I'm sorry," he said, glancing at me.

"It's fine," I replied, looking down at my lap.

He reached over and placed his hand on mine, making me look up. "Your uptightness is one of the things I like about you," he said with a smile.

I felt my cheeks heat up. "You should probably drive before someone honks at us," I muttered, nodding toward the green light ahead.

Kol grinned and continued driving. We spent the ride chatting about our likes and dislikes until he pulled into the parking lot of a miniature golf course.

I stepped out of the car, staring at the brightly colored building that looked like it was designed for kids.

"Really?" I asked, arching a brow at him.

"Come on," he said, extending his hand. "If you don't like it, I'll take you somewhere else."

I sighed and took his hand. We walked inside and approached the register, where a man in a pink employee shirt greeted us.

"Two clubs, the all-around pass," Kol said as he paid.

"You've been here before?" I asked.

Kol leaned against the counter with a grin. "Of course. This is my favorite place to relax."

The employee returned with two neon golf clubs, and we headed out to the course.

As the doors opened, my jaw dropped.

"Oh my gosh," I gasped, staring in awe.
