Klaus's POV
"You should probably go up there and fix things before your engagement is over," Kol said, crossing his arms and barely hiding his smirk.
"Shut up," I snapped before heading upstairs.
I opened the door to our bedroom and found Tara lying on the bed, her face buried in her pillow.
"Tara?" I asked cautiously.
"I'm not talking to you," she muttered, turning her face away.
I sighed, stepping closer. "I'm sorry. I just really wanted us to get married soon. I knew you loved me, and I thought you'd say yes to the proposal."
She sat up, narrowing her eyes at me. "Aren't you full of yourself," she said dryly.
I dropped to my knees beside the bed, gazing into her eyes with my best apologetic expression. "I mean it—I'm sorry. If there's anything I can do to make this up to you, I will. Just please don't call off the engagement," I pleaded.
Tara grabbed my face, holding me just inches from her. Her expression softened, but her voice was firm.
"I'm not canceling it. Rebekah worked hard on the preparations, and I know you've probably spent a lot of money. But if you ever manipulate me like that again, we're done. Do you understand?"
"I understand," I said, a small smile creeping onto my face.
"Good. Now, let me get some sleep," she said, lightly tapping my cheek. She was already in an oversized shirt and shorts, snuggled under the covers with her head on the pillow.
I climbed into bed beside her, wrapping an arm around her and pulling her close.
"Goodnight," she whispered.
"Goodnight," I replied softly.
I closed my eyes, but one thought lingered in my mind: If she ever tried to break off this engagement or leave me, I'd make sure she couldn't.

Next Day
Tara's POVA loud ringing noise jolted me awake. Groaning, I looked over to the chair in the corner and saw the flashing light of my phone. I dragged myself out of bed and answered it.
"Hello," I yawned.
"Hey, it's me," Davina said in a hurried tone. "I need you to come over."
"Why?" I asked groggily.
"I need help picking an outfit for my date tonight!"
"It's morning. Can't I get some sleep?" I groaned.
"It's two o'clock, Tara."
I glanced at my phone and saw she was right. "Oh. I guess I overslept. I'll be over in an hour," I said, hanging up and tossing the phone back onto the chair.
When I turned around, Klaus was standing in front of me, pouting.
"I thought we could stay home and relax," he said.
"Sorry," I said, standing on my tiptoes to give him a quick peck on the lips. "Davina needs my help."
Klaus stayed quiet, following me into the closet.
"I won't be long," I reassured him. "When I get back, we can relax together."
"Okay," he muttered.
I closed the bathroom door, took care of my morning routine, and hopped into the shower. By the time I was dressed and ready, Klaus was nowhere to be found. I wandered into the hallway and ran into Kol.
"Hey, have you seen Klaus?" I asked.
"He's in his office," Kol replied with a grin.
"Thanks!" I said, smiling back.
Kol's nickname, "sis," always made me laugh a little. I followed his directions to Klaus's office, finding the door slightly ajar. Peeking in, I saw Klaus sitting at his desk, glasses perched on his nose as he scribbled something on a piece of paper.
My heart fluttered as I watched him take off the glasses.
"If you're going to stare at me, you might as well come in, my love," Klaus said without looking up, his voice carrying an edge of amusement.
I laughed nervously, stepping inside and glancing around the room. The office was filled with antique furnishings, the warm tones of wood and leather giving it a unique charm. I brushed my hand against his desk, pausing for a moment.
"Is this new?" I asked, noticing a strange familiarity about it.
Klaus stiffened, his gaze sharpening. "No, it's the same desk I've had since the '80s."
"Oh," I murmured. "Well, I'd better get going."
"I've arranged for someone to drive you and pick you up," he said, his tone calm but firm.
"Thanks," I said, smiling before heading downstairs.
⸻
Outside, a man in a suit stood by a sleek black Mercedes. He opened the door for me without a word. The ride to Davina's was silent, the driver stoic the entire way. When we arrived, he stepped out and opened the door for me again.
"I'll be done by six," I said, unsure if he'd respond. He gave a slow nod, making me uneasy.
"Okay..." I muttered, turning to knock on Davina's door.
"Hey!" Davina greeted me with a big smile, glancing at the driver before pulling me inside. "Who was that weirdo?"
"My driver," I said with a scoff.
"He reminds me of Alice's boyfriend from Twilight. Like, he looks like he's in constant pain," Davina said, making me laugh.
"And he doesn't talk either!" We both burst into giggles.
⸻
In Davina's bedroom, I flopped onto her bed as she held up three dresses.
"I've narrowed it down to these three," she said, laying them out.
One was a sparkly green romper-style dress. The second was a red knee-length dress with thin straps, and the last was a flowy green sundress.
"Where is he taking you?" I asked, rubbing my chin in thought.
"I don't know," Davina said, pacing the room.
"Maybe a park?" I suggested.
After a moment of deliberation, I pointed to the red dress. "This one."
Davina's eyes widened as she noticed something on my hand.
"IS THAT A WEDDING RING?" she shrieked, her face a mix of horror and excitement.
