Klaus's POV
The caller ID read "Davina."
"What do you want, Klaus?" Davina answered, her tone irritated.
"I know I haven't spoken to you in a while, but Tara wants to see you."
"Oh, so now you're letting her see me? I haven't seen her in a month. You—"
"DAVINA," I interrupted sharply, "I need you to shut up and listen. Tara has lost some of her memories, and I need you to make sure you don't remind her of anything at school today."
"And why shouldn't I?"
"Keelin said it would be bad for her if we force her to remember."
The line went silent for a moment.
"Fine," she said begrudgingly, "but I'm only doing this for Tara, you sick bastard."
I laughed, amused by her venom. "Goodbye, Davina."
I ended the call and made my way to the parlor. As I approached, I could hear Tara's heartbeat through the closed doors, along with Rebekah's voice. Rolling my eyes, I pushed the double doors open.

Tara's POV
"Don't tell Marcellus, though," Rebekah said with a smirk. "He might get a little jealous. Not that it matters—I wear the pants in our relationship."
"What do you mean by 'the pants'?" I asked, tilting my head in confusion.
"Oh, darling, of course you wouldn't understand. With my brother being so possessive. Wearing the pants means being in control."
"I want to wear the pants," I said, intrigued. "How do I do that?"
Rebekah leaned in, lowering her voice conspiratorially. "All you have to do is use a bit of reverse psychology. Make him think he's in charge to protect his fragile ego, but you'll really be the one calling the shots."
Before I could respond, the doors burst open.
"Hello, love. Time to go before Rebekah fills your head with nonsense," Klaus said, striding into the room. He grabbed my book bag and took my hand, tugging me toward the door.
I turned and waved goodbye to Rebekah as Klaus practically dragged me out of the room.
⸻
In the car, Klaus slammed my door shut and walked to the driver's side, his movements stiff and irritated. As we started driving, his grip on the steering wheel was tight, his jaw clenched.
"Klaus, what's wrong?" I asked, concerned.
His eyes flicked toward me for a second before returning to the road. He didn't answer.
"Fine," I said with mock sarcasm. "Don't tell me what you think I did wrong."
He sighed heavily. "You shouldn't listen to Rebekah. She's a bad influence."
I laughed, rolling my eyes. "That's what this is about? Klaus, she's your sister. She's not a bad influence on me—I have my own brain, you know."
Folding my arms, I huffed in frustration. Klaus pulled up in front of my school just as the bell rang. I spotted Davina and Josh standing near the entrance.
Without another word, I got out of the car and slammed the door behind me. Walking toward Davina and Josh, I slipped my hands into theirs, one on each side.

Davina's POV
"So, she's forgotten everything?" Josh asked quietly as Tara walked ahead of us.
"It seems so," I replied, my voice low. "I guess Klaus wasn't lying."
"Do you think he used magic to erase her memory?" Josh asked anxiously.
I shook my head, pressing a hand to my forehead. "No, there's no spell in the world strong enough to make someone forget everything he's done to her. Something else must've happened for her to lose her memories."
I sighed as Tara approached us, smiling brightly, oblivious to our conversation.

Tara's POV
Class went by in a blur. When I walked into the room, the professor paused mid-sentence and sighed.
"Nice to see you back, Tara," she said.
I offered her a small smile before sitting down and pulling out my notebook. When I glanced over at Davina, she gave me a questioning look, but we stayed silent as Ms. Davis droned on about chemistry.
After was adjourned, I quickly left the room, Davina on one side of me and Josh on the other.
"What was that about?" I asked.
"Oh, you know professors—they're always a little weird," Josh said nervously, earning a nudge from Davina.
I laughed, shaking my head at the two of them.
The rest of the school day passed uneventfully. At the end of the day, walked to the front of the building. That's when I spotted Klaus, leaning casually against his black Range Rover.
His arms were crossed, his muscles on full display, and he was wearing black sunglasses. His smirk was the kind that screamed trouble.
I groaned, turning to Davina and Josh. "Oh god, he's such a show-off."
"Good luck with that," Josh said sarcastically, pulling out his car keys. "See you tomorrow."
"Bye, guys," I said, waving as they walked off.
I approached Klaus, who opened the door for me without a word. After I slid in, he got into the driver's seat and started the car.
⸻
"So, how was your day?" Klaus asked, breaking the silence.
"Oh, I don't know," I said, my tone dripping with sarcasm. "Maybe I should ask Rebekah, since she thinks for me."
Klaus sighed, pulling to a stop at a red light. He turned to me, his hand gently covering mine.
"I'm sorry," he said softly. "I didn't mean to imply you don't have your own mind. I was out of line."
I glanced at him, surprised by the sincerity in his voice. "Thank you," I muttered, looking out the window to hide the small smile forming on my lips.
