"You wanna know about the paper, don't you?"
The paper. The paper I kept wondering about for hours and days. "Uhm, maybe, I do. It got me wondering things." I muffled. I leaned forward on the chair, paying a lot more attention than before. I think she didn't want to tell me anything about it but couldn't resist it when the anxiety hit her about me. "What did I tell you about it? Uhh, yeah. A letter from my friend, right?" I nod in agreement. "And it was not it?" I raised my eyebrows, "Yeah, A little different, but the fun fact is that I never had any friends before you guys. Just him. He wrote that letter when I was just about to leave home and handed it over to me with the biggest smile on his face while I had those little tears while holding the doorknob, saying, "Don't cry big sis, you don't look good." I took the letter with trembling hands."
It was kind of expected but still made me get goosebumps. The bond was true, and strong between you both."You still had it, that's...sad" I could say nothing but that. "Of course I did, I still do, the childish handwriting and language, the innocence was flashing in it. the page is now really crumbled, but I'll show it to you." You moved over to her bag and picked out the sheet, crumbled and dirty, and handed it over to me.
I folded open the sheet to see the slanting writing, like a child would write without straight lines given. It went something like mentioned below.
"Hello, dear sis,
I am good and I hope you are the same. I am writing this so that you know that I love you and I hope you will be back from wherever you are going soon. Mumma told me that you're leaving for a vacation, I'm really sad that I am not able to go along with you but it's fine, I can get more time with Mumma alone and you will be left behind, with lesser time.
I'll be waiting for you to come back and tell me all about the place, I'll not be jealous, don't worry. In fact, you should be jealous that you miss out on all the fun I and Mumma are going to have. But I do know that you don't like Mumma and Papa and I hope you will forget the fights and be happy with us.
You know, I saw a dream last night, where you and Papa were fighting again. I looked over to Mumma and she was crying, she then shouted, "STOP YOU TWO, IS THIS THE WAY YOU SHOULD TALK TO YOUR FATHER, MIHOKO?" You then looked at her for a few seconds and then ran over to your room, angry. "Disgrace as a child," Papa yelled. I also heard that you and Papa had a fight yesterday night, I am wishing you did not cry again. I hope you will be happy on the vacation, after all, you will be away from Mumma and Papa.
I want to ask a question from you, sis. Are you not happy with me too? Am I the one who makes you sad? I hope I'm not because I do not want myself to be the reason for your sorrow. But at last, I want to say, happy vacations, big sis! Enjoy the time you're there for.
Love,
~Ichiro
"His name was...Ichiro. Haramatsu Ichiro." She said with a gulp in her voice as I folded the paper in half. "He must be fifteen now." I placed my arms on the backrest of the chair, dropping my head in between. I stayed like that for a few minutes until she stated, "Maybe that was the reason I was not telling you about it." I raised my head, taking a deep breath. "Did your parents know about your aunt and uncle raising you?" I asked. "They did. Everyone knew how Papa used to shout at me and how we used to fight. When they got to know about me leaving the house, they called me on Mumma's number and proposed to live with them. Soon enough, Papa got to know about it and had a long-drawn fight with my uncle." You moved over to the window, sliding open the curtains. "And after that?" I asked, concerned. "Ichiro handed me the letter and I looked over to him, saying "I love you both." I closed the door behind me" She went over to the speaker and stopped the music. "I went out to see uncle Riku standing outside his car, waiting for me. "I hope we can treat you better," He smiled at me."
"They really treated me in the best way they could, like I was their own child. They were not financially great, but provided me with everything I ever asked for, which I cannot pay them back for." She shrugged. I don't really remember what was happening but my hands were shaking.
After a while, we were drinking coffee together, to relax a bit. I sat on the edge of the bed, while you were resting on the backrest of the bed. We spent a lot of time being silent, I was zoned out, thinking about all that you said. - What happened to Ichiro after you left? Did your parents ever miss you? Did they ever try to get you back? Just academics cannot be the only reason for disowning you. - "Why do you write in the diary?" You asked as you kept the cup on the side table. I lowered my cup to keep it just above my thigh, "You finally asked," I looked down, stirring the cup."I started writing it a few years ago, as a hobby. I was actually enjoying it, writing every day, discussing my life. I actually started a 'segment' just to discuss the dumb things that used to happen to me every day. I created SEASONS. It was all for the one person who will read it after I die." I faced upwards, to you.
"I wanted to create a hell of an adventure for them. An action thriller." Eventually, it started getting boring, but I never quit writing with the same spirit and the same enthusiasm, hoping to get to a point where I'll enjoy writing again. I kept waiting, day to day until I found you. I looked at you and I could feel the excitement to go home and write all about you. And then I did, I would spend nights thinking about you, writing about you, so that I could read it all over again and remember you. I started writing for you. I wish I could say all that to you...
. . .
"ASAHI!" Anli was knocking on the door repeatedly. It was loud, I can for sure say that she was screaming with her whole throat at that time. "ASAHI!" You jumped off the bed and opened the door, I followed you to see Anli with bloody eyes, tears pacing down her cheeks. Akira was on the wall in front of the door in the same condition. "ASAHI. MIHOKO." She screamed, "RIIAMU. RIIAMU." She continued screaming. "WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM?" You shouted, holding Anli's shoulders.
"He's no more."
