The Days Left

You were not deliberately talking to me after that day. I used to walk up to your home every evening, and then I went to visit you, feeling nervous about you not being there. "What if I do not find you there?" Thoughts were running around and 'round in my head. With trembling hands, I ringed the bell. My heart started beating again after I saw you open the door.

"Hey, I'm actually really busy right now, can I come over to your place later?" The girl who used to barge into my house without anybody's consent, who called me and forced me to go to her place at midnight, asked me if she could come over. You really changed in those past days. "Yeah alright, you can come over whenever you feel like it." I went away as she shut the door, walking back to my place.

I sat on the couch, waiting for you the whole evening. I was looking for excuses to call you, but even though I did, I did not have the courage to actually call you. I tried to sleep but couldn't, the thoughts just wouldn't let me.

I finally called you the other morning, saying "You wanna come over for the research now?" I had no hopes but to my surprise, you actually agreed to it. "Yeah sure, your place or mine?"

"It's your call."

"Okay, I'll be there in 10" I was so happy at that moment, literally hopping around in the house.

*bell ringed* I stopped running after reaching the door, took a pause, fixed my hair, and opened the door. "Morning!" You were looking down again, as usual. But ignoring it, I said "Hey, Come in!"

We worked on the research normally like before, but something was different, you used to talk so much while working, that I couldn't even focus on anything but you. But this time you stayed silent, I tried to talk to you but it was no use. I used to wonder about the reason every night, tried to talk to you every day, and think about you every second. But I couldn't sense anything from your side.

A Month Later

"It's Akira's birthday in 9 days, we have to do something for him!" Anli exclaimed. After thinking for hours you said "We can just go to a trampoline park or a movie night!"

"Or both." I didn't even have the pocket money left for that, but I said it, without thinking even once about it. And of course, you both agreed on it, why would you not! I saved the money for the next few days. It didn't really make any huge difference but kind of helped.

During and after those 10 days, you were just the Mihoko I knew, cheerful. It was such a relief to see you coming back.

8 Days Left

We all were saving money for Akira's gift. After all, we couldn't ask our parents for the money, except for Anli, and well we don't talk about the other part where her parents went for a straight no (at least she tried).

You would just break into my place and tell me your plans about Akira's birthday, now that I focus on it, I don't remember a single thing you told me, just your face. I was really lost... "And I'm gonna find the best moment of the movie to give him the gift. His face would probably go all pale. YOU RECORD THAT!" You said while sitting on the couch, being all excited. "I'm not really the right person to do this, but if you say so."

7 Days Left

It was the day we went shopping for Akira's gift. Even though I was fatigued, I had to go. You can probably guess the reason I had to go. We had a week to get the gifts, but you were too excited for us to go later. So keeping my budget in mind, I got a new pair of headphones, which I promised him. But YOU, the reason for us being in the mall for the whole day. Selecting the gifts for someone you just got to know, but you were so into it, even though we had time, who goes shopping a week before the birthday? Well, then I got a call from Anli, saying she's coming to the mall.
