POV- XandyrI ran inside the gates as fast as I could go. Hope was waiting on me and I was afraid I might be too late. I ran as my lungs started to pump harder and harder. I coughed in and out air as I continued to sprint with the necklace. I wanted to relive the moments I danced with her. I wasn't going to let this moment go. Not a chance in a hell was I going to let her die.
I pushed past people and big crowds as I sprinted harder towards the castle doors. I hope I wasn't too late. I had perseverance in my eyes. Everyone looked at me like a madman and got out of my way.
I sure as hell wasn't going out in silence.
I was almost to the gates. I kept sprinting. I didn't care about how exhausted I was. I was going to fight for her. I slammed everything out of my way and jumped over crowds.
I finally reached the area where the golden stairs were. I slammed my feet down as I ran up the stairs. The gold stairs quaked below my feet as I ran as far as I could.
I pounded on the doors. I pounded and pounded. I kicked and screamed for minutes.
"LET ME IN!" I screamed.
"Ye—-" I quieted him.
The guard opened the door peacefully and I shoved him out of the way. I slammed the doors behind me. He gave me a confused look as he saw I ran towards Hope's ward. I ran past all the paintings and slammed into the ward room to see her laying there. She was barely conscious. It almost brought tears to my eyes.
I quickly ran to her bed and kneeled beside her. She looked worse than when I had left.
"Hey hey... I got your necklace," I said to her with worry in my voice.
"No... It's..." she said with heaving breaths, "It's okay..."
"Yes. Yes of course it'll be okay. I won't let anything bad happen to you I promise," I said holding back tears.
"Tell me something I won't forget," she said weakly.
"Why... Please don't let me think this is what it means," I said with worry.
"Just... Tell me okay?" She said finally looking up at me.
"I traveled far and wide. I met Venetra... I wanna cure you," I said to her.
"Xandyr... I'm not going to make it," she started with golden tears flowing down her eyes, "but let me tell you something."
"I'm listening," I said with hope.
"I always come back," she started. "Hope never dies, it just slumbers with silence."
"When will you come back?" I asked.
"I will come back stronger than ever and live longer than ever. I will come back when it is the right time. I want you to find whoever is causing this, and get it to stop. That will help me dearly," she said with more heaving breaths.
"No... NO. Please don't leave me," I said.
Gold began to spread along her face. I started slamming the necklace on her chest, trying to get her to live.
"TAKE IT JUST TAKE IT," I said with anger and tears.
"I'm so sorry Xandyr... I will come back one day. Maybe then and only then we can start from where we left off," she said with golden tears falling down her eyes.
Nurses and knights rushed in the room and began to push me out of the way to grab her.
"NO!!!" I screamed.
They started to carry her limp body out of the ward. I started to pull them back but it was no use. They started down the hallway furthermore as they were going to parts of the empire I had never been before."Where are you guys going?" I asked with puffy eyes.
"The preservation room. It's where we'll keep her until the time comes when she is reborn again," one of the nurses replied as she walked.
"That's good to know. How long do I wait?" I asked relieved.
"Well it can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hundred years," she paused, thinking. "maybe longer. I'm not certain at the current moment."
"She doesn't die?" I asked.
"nope," the nurse replied confidently.
"How?" I asked more.
"Look. She's the hope of the universe. It can't kill her off. She's one of the mightiest of warriors. Venetra being the best that we know of," she replied.
They continued walking for a long while until they turned into a wall.
The knights left their posts and began to turn the golden wheel to open the vault. I saw the area where they would place her in the wall. Her arms would be crossed to each shoulder and her legs together. They closed her eyes as the gold began to settle. They walked up to the wall and I stopped them.
"Wait," I said, pausing them in their tracks.
They looked at me as I walked up to the wall. I looked at Hope's eyes. They were open but they looked dead. I couldn't bare to see them like that. I ran my fingers over her face. Her face was ever so slightly growing colder.
I held back tears as I began to pick up her limp body in my arms. It felt horrible. My heart began to hurt.
I walked to the wall as the knights and nurses began to walk out and give me my space. How kind of them. I put her into her slot and folded her arms to each opposite shoulder. I closed her eyes with my fingers.
I looked at her as the gold began to flow over her body. From her hair down to her feet. The gold moved quickly and eventually you couldn't see her anymore. Just a statue in the wall with her hair trapped and flowing every which way. I looked close enough to see that her tears were trapped in the gold as well.
I dropped down to my knees and began to whine in pain. My heart was in pain. I did all that for her to go to rest. What if she never came back? What if she left me in silence? She said hope never dies... only rests...
It wasn't fair.
My heart is hers and only hers.
It didn't help that it felt like my heart was set aflame. It felt like a sword was stabbed into my heart. My tears began to fall onto the golden floors. I realized I still had the necklace. I sat it down in front of the wall.
I began to sob. Tears flooded out of my eyes and I could hear them drip dropping on the floor.
I missed her already. I hoped she wasn't dead. Or was it all just lies to have her make me feel better? It couldn't be...
I traced my hands along the wall with the blur of tears in my eyes. She's a beauty. One of a kind.
I sat there for hours just waiting for her.
Please come back to me Hope.
I'll wait for you for as long as I live.
I promise...
