I sat down once again with my arms wrapped around my knees. I rolled up my sleeve and looked at one of the many white veins in my skin. Today my skin was a shade of galactica. It was a very dark and shimmery midnight blue. I examined one of my veins closely and it seemed something dangerous was amidst. Per usual i dismissed it because in the space between worlds and the worlds themselves, dangerous mis happenings happens all the time. There was a question I was asked a long time ago.
"Have you ever been in a battle, Venetra?"
Of course. I had been in many battles. Another question had risen again."Well then, have you ever been in a war?"
That was the more difficult question to answer. This was because I hadn't fought in too many major wars. I had hidden on my planet for a reason. I didn't want to get hurt again. I had felt pain, but loss of a friend was different. I remember seeing her fly through the air of a fiery battlefield and fall to the ground with a crash. Blood rushed out of her chest due to the chain spike that struck her in the lungs and heart.
She never said anything that day. I didn't need to hear what she could've said. I retreated to my planet and I didn't speak to anyone about fighting in a battle or war again.
I brushed off my legs and threw on a white jumpsuit with my trench coat. In case I ever got lost I would always drag a fallen branch around to follow the lines home. At this point I had grown well accustomed to my environment. I looked up at the galactic sky and saw a few stars shimmer.
After drawing around in the thin dust on the smooth surface of my planet, I decided to draw back to my tree. I sat my lantern down and decided to light it as my planet grew dark. The small orb of light made a small noise as it gave me the light I needed. I pulled out one of my busted gadgets out of my pocket and lifted it to the light and examined it. Its my map of worlds. Whenever I find a new world, I set up a new map to see where I'm going. A few of the maps became busted and some of the storage was lost. Meaning, I'll have to re-explore some of these worlds. I'm not complaining, but some of these worlds have jumps and that takes a toll on most normal creatures.
As a guardian I don't mind. I got out a few small sharp pieces of steel and wire and got to work on the small but capable storage panel. The Red light eventually turned into a green as I finished up some final touches. I put the map back in my pocket and rested my back and head against the tree.
A few hundred light years away I had heard a new sound. Right before I had rested my eyes. I heard a small ding far far away. Could be the bells of battle. Either way, it wasn't my concern. I had fought in enough battles. My job was to watch. To wait. Most importantly, to observe. The moment I hear knocking though... That's when my real job will come in handy.
Either way, today was a good day of work. I fixed the map. I watched over and felt if worlds were doing alright. No knocking. It's been light years without the knocking. No knocking? No big work for me. Another day. Another day of looking at my worlds in front of me. Another day of fixing. Another day of no pain. Another day of living.
I felt along my orb as I felt my skin start to pulse and lull me to sleep. Goodnight blue planet. I love the wonders you provide for me. If only the other worlds would do the same. Maybe then, and only then, my life would be prosperous and more fulfilling. Thing is for me, there is no death. Thank you again blue planet. Make sure there is no harm to my gadget tonight.
And most importantly no knocking. Never. Ever. Ever. No knocking.
Once again, No knock, no hard work.
It was after that moment. I began to fully immerse myself in the resting world of my dreams.
