Anger began to bubble in the pit of her stomach as Ed laughed......laughed. (Y/n) not sure whether he was laughing at her, or the situation; either way, she didn't like it. It not smart to be amused by someone that had a gun in her hand and had learnt from some of the worst criminals in Gotham, just the right way to dispose of a body. A part of her, still believing that all this was some kind of sick joke; but on the off chance that all this was not Ed playing the fool, she decided to reenforce her threat just a little, her eyes never leaving him, as she picked up the receiver of the phone.

"What are you doing, (Y/n)...........?" Ed asked, as his laughter finally died away.

"What does it look like.........?" She countered, as her finger began to dial a number.

"I am calling the police precinct, maybe Gordon or Bullock are still there. I am going to tell them what you told me, and I am going to keep you at gun point until one of them gets here and arrests you, before having you sent to Arkham for the rest of your days. And if you move, I will shoot you and claim that it was self-defense; given what you say you have hiding in the boot of your car, I can't imagine that they will question it much. Then.....then you can join your oh, so precious Kringle in death......." (Y/n) continued, the sound of the dial as number after number was rung, filling the expanse of the suddenly quiet room.

"Love..........." Her finger hovering over the last number as Ed spoke. His tone now devoid of all amusement; the mirth replaced with sincerity.

"Love..........? What do you mean, love.........? Is it another stupid riddle, Ed; because if it is.........."

"You wanted one good reason why you shouldn't....wouldn't put a bullet between my eyes......well, that is it......you love me, (Y/n); you confessed as much, and despite everything, I know you still do. So, that is why you won't kill me, and that is why you won't call the precinct. That is why you will put down the receiver and help me with my little problem..........." Ed explained, as he got to his feet. His brows furrowing slightly as (Y/n) now took her turn to laugh at him.

"I don't know what has happened to you, Ed; though part of me has to admit that I quite like this new brazen side of your character. But it is going to take a lot more than you saying that I am in love with you, for me to stop. It is true that I foolishly confessed my feelings for you; that I told you that I felt something more for you than just friendship, but that was then.........and this is now. Whatever feelings I had for you, have long since gone, you saw to that by choosing Kringle over me. By telling me that I was ugly, jealous; that I was nothing compared to her. That all the years we had known one another; all the times that we had been there for one another when no one else was, meant absolutely nothing to you. You see, I know that no matter what, you will never love me in return; even though you may have killed Kristen, even though her body might possibly be in the trunk of your car, she will only ever be the one you care about. So, now it is my turn to hurt you; to break you as you did me. And though I cannot shatter your heart, I can make sure that you are sent away for the rest of your life; only ever seeing the inside of Arkham and all the other crazies that call it home........" (Y/n) continuing to chuckle, as she pushed her finger into the last number, and turned the dial. The click quickly followed by the zipping sound as the dial returned to its original position. The room going silent again, as she and Ed heard the sound of ringing from the receiver.

Pain, that was what he could see in her eyes; Ed knew that he had hurt her that day. That he had burnt all his bridges and didn't deserve anything from her; but he foolishly hadn't realised how much harm he had truly done with his words. Hadn't realised what he had lost until the spell of Kristen Kringle, was gone. It was true, (Y/n) had always been there; cared when no one else did. Took him seriously when no one else would and accepted him for everything he was; things only changing when Kristen had come into his life. Though she was wrong about one thing, and that was that the department archivist wasn't the only one that he would ever care for.

"Gotham City Police Department............" A slightly muffled voice suddenly said. Ed turning his gaze to (Y/n); the two looking at one another for a moment. He knowing that he had to do something, that he had to stop this before the police came knocking down her door and dragged him away. Ed finding himself locked in a padded cell.

"Gotham City Police Department.....can I help you........?" The voice on the other end of the line asked. (Y/n) about to say something, about to ask for the two detectives that she had come to know during her time writing about all the crimes that occurred in the city, over her years with the paper. Yet before she could; before a word could leave her mouth, a pair of lips crashed into hers; two arms wrapping themselves around her waist before pulling her close. The receiver falling from her hand and landing perfectly back into its place on the phone.
