Daphne definitely wanted to have her friends with her at this moment. She was stuck between Mike and Nancy at the dinner table while poking at her meatloaf. She shouldn't be surprised that some little girl had magic powers after how she got here in the first place. But that did not stop her brain from completely frying.
Mrs. Wheeler took notice of the silence, "Something wrong with the meatloaf?"
"Oh, no, I had two bologna sandwiches for lunch."
After all eyes had been on Dustin, Lucas added with a sucked in smile, "Me, too."
Daphne just admitted the truth, "I'm just not that hungry."
Nancy looked at them all as though they had thrown second heads, "It's delicious, mommy."
"Thanks, sweetie."
Nancy did not even pause for a moment as she started, "So... There's this special assembly thing tonight for Will at the school field. Barb's driving."
Karen set her fork down and raised a brow at her daughter, "Why am I just hearing about this?"
"I thought you knew..."
"I told you-" Karen shook her head in disappointment, "I don't want you out after dark until Will is found."
"I know, I know, but it'd be weird if I'm not there." Nancy ate another piece of meatloaf, "I mean... everyone's going."
With another long and heavy sigh, "Just be back by ten. WHy don't you take the boys and Daphne, too?" Almost immediately all the boys said no, "Don't you think you should be there for Will?"
Mike glanced up as he was drinking and saw El walking down the stairs which caused him to choke on his milk. Right before Karen could turn around, Dustin slammed his fist on the table and got her attention. He sheepishly grinned, "Sorry. Spasm."
Karen took her youngest's hand, "It's okay, Holly. It was just a loud sound."
Nancy glared at Dutsin, "Nice."
Karen pointed directly at Daphne, "The boys can stay home if they'd like, but I really think you should take Daphne. She is around your age and it would be good for her to meet other teenagers."
"No..." Daphne mumbled, "Really, I-"
"Yeah, she can come." Nancy quickly spoke over her, "Barb really likes her."
"That's good." Karen smiled before her attention was on Daphne, "How was your first day."
"It was fine... I guess."
"You had to take the placement test today, do you know how you did?"
Daphne set her fork down and played with her fingers under the table, "Uh... Mrs. Pellegrini never told us our scores. She just put us in our grades."
