Steve pulled up to the Henderson house with Nancy. He was rather proud of his couple's costume with Nancy. He was Joel Goodson and Nancy was Lana from the recently released film Risky Business. He honked his horn which caused Nancy to jump and glare in his direction.
"Why did you do that?"
"Oh, Mabel told me to honk when we got here."
Nancy huffed and shifted in her seat, "Warn me next time then."
"Right, sorry."
Marcus came running out which caused Steve to choke, "Oh, my God."
Nancy covered her mouth and immediately got out of the car, "Marcus!"
"It's horrible, isn't it?"
"No!" Nancy quickly cut him off with a laugh, something Steve watched through the door, "Not at all! You look good! Hot, actually."
Marcus grew flustered and played with the coat, "Are you sure? Most of this costume wasn't my idea."
"I'm sure." Nancy chuckled as she pulled the sleeve of his coat, "Who's idea?"
"Burgundy and Mabel."
"Makes sense." Nancy smiled up at him, "Where's Mabel?"
"I took over the bathroom trying to get my hair to fluff up like a lion's so she's still putting on some makeup." Marcus admitted before he leaned forward and waved, "Sorry, Steve."
"Ah, yeah, no problem, it's fine." Steve sank back further in his seat and his shades fell down on his face in the process.
"Sorry!" Mabel yelled as she ran out as quickly as she could in the heeled boots she was wearing, "It's really hard to get a bunch of glitter to do what I want."
Nancy took in Mabel's costume and her eyes widened, "Wow..."
"Is this Tinman-esque enough?" Mabel demanded as she spun around to reveal the entire costume, "Should I close the jacket? Is the bra too much? It's too much."
Nancy laughed nervously, "No. No. It's not too much! You look good! Definitely can see the Tinman now that you're standing with Marcus."
"I feel really good about this costume." Mabel admitted, glad to hear that Nancy agreed, though she wasn't sure if it was true or not. But to be honest, she wasn't really registering that due to all of the nerves.
Nancy rolled her eyes and smacked the car, "Steve, tell Mabel she looks good."
"Hm, what?" Steve jolted and pushed the shades up. His mouth fell open slightly as he took in Mabel's costume. "Oh, yeah. She looks good."
Nancy just nodded her head, "Let's get going."
Mabel tried not to appear upset that Steve didn't give her a better compliment. She didn't want a huge one because of his relationship with Nancy, but deep down she truly wanted the validation from him. Her crush on him was going to end her at some point but she didn't want to lose their friendship.
