Marcus and Burgundy walked into the familiar house behind Nancy and Jonathan. He felt like they would get in a lot of trouble just because they were skipping school. He could only imagine the disappointed lecture they would get from Daphne.
"Marcus?" Karen peaked around and then noticed the others, "Jonathan... Burgundy?"
"Uh... Mrs. Wheeler." Marcus' voice almost cracked at the sight of Nancy's mother.
Karen smiled at them, "What a pleasant surprise."
"Yeah." Nancy breathed out and waved her hand in front of her, "We have a test tomorrow."
"Hmm." Karen just continued smiling at them before her eyes wandered to the paper bag, "Did you go shopping?"
"Oh, uh, yeah. My Walkman broke." Nancy lied -not so smoothly- but good enough to convince her mother.
"Awe." Karen almost didn't believe her daughter. Almost. She wondered if there maybe were condoms in that bag, "Bummer."
"Anyway..." Nancy trailed off, "We should go."
Marcus just smiled over at Karen, "It is a really important presentation."
Burgundy waved, "Bye, Mrs. Wheeler."
"Bye!" Karen called after them, "It was good to see all of you!"
Marcus shut the door behind them once everyone was inside of Nancy's room, "I thought your mom wasn't home."
"She pops in the house every once in a while." Nancy mumbled. She had been just as nervous as the rest of them... Maybe even more nervous knowing what they were going to do.
Jonathan sat down on the edge of her bed, "Are you sure you want to do this?"
"Without a doubt." Nancy answered confidently while she glanced over at Marcus, her best friend that decided to be there for her. "I'm scared, yeah, but I want to do this."
"Okay." Burgundy put her hands on her hips and sighed out, "Everyone remember the plan?"
"Disgustingly so..." Marcus whispered before nodding for Nancy to begin.
Nancy grabbed her landline and dialed Mrs. Holland. She had to hold the phone a certain way to allow everyone in the room to be close enough to hear what was happening on the other end.
"Marsha speaking." Nancy paused. She was hesitant. "Hello? Hello?"
"Mrs. Holland." Nancy grabbed onto Marcus' hand as reassurance, "Hi, it's, um... it's Nancy."
"Nancy?"
"I, uh, I need to tell you something. Something about Barb. About that night. I, uh I, uh I haven't been honest with you. But I can't tell you here on the phone. Meet me tomorrow, Forrest Hills Park, 9:00 a.m. Don't tell anyone. And don't call me back here. It's dangerous."
