The fact that Mabel and Steve had not said a word since the passionate kiss in the junkyard seemed insane. Mabel mainly felt as though she could not muster any sort of response to the kiss. She had not expected the kiss and couldn't stop thinking about it.
Despite the silence between the teens, the kids were speaking with one another as they walked. "You're positive that was Dart?"
"Yes." Dustin answered Lucas, "He had the same exact yellow pattern on his butt."
Max had kept close to Lucas, "He was tiny two days ago."
"Well, he's molted three times already."
Steve blinked, "Malted?"
On instinct, Mabel corrected him, "Molted."
"Shed his skin to make room for growth like hornworms." Dustin further explained.
"When's he gonna molt again?"
"It's gotta be soon..." Dustin murmured as he held his flashlight up in the dark, "When he does, he'll be fully grown, or close to it. And so will his friends."
"Yeah-" Steve kicked at the ground, his cheeks still a little warm as he spoke, "-and he's gonna eat a lot more than just cats."
"Wait, a cat?" Lucas stopped Dustin, which then stopped the entire group from moving, "Dart ate a cat?"
"No, what? No..."
Steve just got confused, not reading that Dustin was trying to lie, "What are you talking about? He ate Mews."
"Mews?" Max shot her head up to look at Steve, "Who's Mews?"
Without hesitating, Steve answered, "It's Dustin's cat."
"Steve!"
"I knew it!" Lucas shoved at Dustin's shoulder, "You kept him!"
"No! No. No, I-" Dustin looked over at Mabel for help but she just raised her brows at him, "No, I-He missed me. He wanted to come home."
"Bullshit!"
"I didn't know he was a Demogorgon, okay?"
"Oh, so now you admit it?"
"Gues, who cares?" Max huffed, "We have to go."
"I care!" Lucas snapped, "You put the party in jeopardy! You broke the rule of law!"
"So did you!" Dustin fired back in his face.
Steve and Mabel, at the same time, rolled their eyes and looked away as the children started to bicker with one another.
"What?"
"You told a stranger the truth!"
"A stranger?" Max raised her brows.
"You wanted to tell her, too!"
"But I didn't, Lucas, okay?" Dustin responded with irritation, "I didn't tell her! We both broke the rule of law, okay? So we're even. We're even."
