*Scarlette's POV*

It'll be Christmas Eve tomorrow and Zack hasn't talked to me since the incident. But Alex and I are back to 'friend status' or whatever you can call it. We basically have the same relationship now as we did when we first got to Australia.

Avery came over today and kicked Alex out of his house so the two of us could work on Alex's Christmas present.

"Please tell me that you haven't told Alex, yet?" Avery asked.

"No, he has no clue."

Avery has been taking me to the doctor for consistent check-ups and I have been recovering faster than everyone thought! The last time I went to the doctor was about three days ago, and I can stand on my own, now but I can't walk without losing my balance.

"You need to start walking by tomorrow! C'mon, just walk like three feet!" Avery encouraged.

"I don't want to fall, again!"

"It'll be just like a trust fall if you end up losing your balance!"

"Avery, the last time I did an actual trust fall with you, you purposely didn't catch me!"

"You really think I'd let you fall while you're injured?" Avery put her hands on her hips.

Before I could reply, the doorbell rang. Avery ran upstairs and soon returned.

"It's addressed to you." Avery handed me an envelope with a confused expression on her face.

I, too, was confused. It had my name on the front, but somebody had slipped it through Alex's mail slot, so whoever it is must know that I'm here. But it's probably just Jack or someone. Or maybe it's Zack!

I tore open the envelope and pulled out a fancy piece of paper.

Dearest Scarlette,

You never called me. You started dating Alex. You broke my heart. I've come back for you, darling, and this time, you aren't running away from me. You won't be able to take your next flight.

I bet you won't have trouble running away, anyhow, no? I'm glad you were in front of my car, it makes this so much easier.

Sincerely,
R.T.

"Scar, you okay?" Avery must've seen my reaction.

"I-Is this some sort of sick joke?!"

Avery snatched the letter from my hands and took a minute to read it.

"It's just a prank, I assure you." Avery said.

"How do you know?"

"I can tell."

"Are you sure?"

"Scarlette, none of us will let anything happen to you, you have nothing to worry about! Now, come on, you need to walk!"

Avery and I never told Alex about the letter. Avery told me to throw it away, but I just hid it in one of the drawers in Alex's guest bedroom.

Today is Christmas Day and Rian, Jack, and Avery are over. Rian told me that Zack was at his parents' house, so that's why he couldn't make it today. I still think he's avoiding me though.

"Here's your present, Jack!" Alex handed Jack a box poorly wrapped in holiday paper.

Jack snatched the box from Alex and began furiously ripping at the paper. Out of all the presents that were under the tree, you could tell which ones Jack and Alex wrapped and which ones Avery, Rian, and I wrapped.

"Thanks, Alex!" Jack cheered and he pulled out a shiny, purple guitar, "I love it!"

Jack handed Alex a box that was about the same size. Jack had bought Alex a guitar as well. This guitar was neon green.

"Thanks, Jack!" Alex smiled widely.

I picked up my present for Rian and handed it to him, "For you."

Avery and I had been out shopping a few times and the two of us had bought everyone presents.

Rian unwrapped his present from me and pulled out a box encased in plastic with a pair of new Promark drumsticks inside.

"Thanks Scarlette!" Rian beamed with that perfect smile of his. Like how can someone have teeth so white and straight and I'M SO JEALOUS DAMMIT RIAN.

Rian handed me a present that was in a bag instead of wrapped. I pulled out the colored tissue paper to see a velvet box at the bottom. I opened the small box and there was a golden necklace with a microphone charm dangling from it.

"It's from Cass and me. Cass picked it out!" Rian said.

"Thanks, I love it!"

Jack threw a box at me, "Open mine next!"

I laughed and unwrapped my present from Jack.

"Did you really buy me a lion onesie?" I laughed.

"Hey, if you don't want it, I'll take it!" Avery said.

Avery handed Jack the present from the two of us which were tickets to Home Alone on Broadway. Jack gasped and grin appeared on his face almost instantly.

"OH MY FUCK YES THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH HOLY SHIT YESSSS." Jack screamed and threw the tickets into the air.

All of us shared a laugh and Alex looked at Avery and I, "When are you going to give me my present?"

Avery had told Jack and Rian about the "present" for Alex where I'd surprise him by walking, so they were told not to tell him. All of us exchanged glances and smiled.

"Why are you guys giving each other those looks?" Alex asked.

Avery stood up and made Alex stand on the far edge of the room. I was a little afraid because I still couldn't walk very far on my own. Avery walked over to me and pushed my wheelchair so that I was a little closer to Alex. When she stopped, I stood up and took a few steps toward Alex. His eyes widened and his mouth was gaped in shock.

"OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! ARE YOU GUYS SEEING THIS?!" Alex flipped out, "HOLY SHIT!"

Everyone laughed and Alex engulfed me in a bone-crushing hug.

"Merry Christmas, 'Lex." I smiled.

Alex released me from the hug and gazed into my eyes for a few seconds before hugging me again.

"Who wants food?!" Avery shouted and everyone cheered as they ran upstairs to Alex's kitchen.

"This is the best gift ever." Alex said.

"How?" I asked.

"Because my best friend can walk."

After my eventful day, I decided to call Zack to wish him a Merry Christmas. He didn't answer, and I didn't expect him to, but I left him a message, anyway.

"Hey Zack, it's Scarlette. I'm not sure why you're avoiding me, but I miss talking to you. I just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas. Bye." I hung up.

"Why is Zack avoiding you?" Alex walked into the guest room.

"I really don't want to talk about it..." I said.

"Okay. Well, I came in to tell you goodnight."

"Night, Lex."

Alex shut the door and I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up sometime around 2:00 am to a bright light.

"Alex...what is it...?" I muttered, rubbing my eyes.

Once my eyes adjusted to the light, I could tell where it was coming from. And it wasn't Alex.

"M-Mom?"
